Senior Class History As Freshmen we gazed wonderingly into the hails of Chapman High School. There we stood as if lost in space. With the help of our sponsors Mrs. Waters, Mr. Smith, Mrs. Anthony, and Mr. Prince, we soon found our ways and became an integral part of the school. Our class officers were Brent Barnette, president; Terry Howell, vice-president; Geraldine Clayton, secretary; Martha Fowler, reporter; and Jackie Riley, treasurer. Terry Howell. Mike Wilson, Judi Wilson, Joe Maddox, Ruth Ann Fleming, and Janie Bishop were homeroom presidents. Ray Dill, Walden Blanton, Greg Edwards, Sammy Raney. Mike Tucker, and David Cooper fought bravely for us on the football field. We were well represented on the girls’ basketball team by Vicki Stevens, Helen Mabry, Dianne Penland, Kathy Hightower, and Jenny Fowler. Our class placed Dan Campbell and Ken Dittemore on the track team. Tanya Cartee helped cheer our Panthers on to victory. Janie Bishop captured the title of “Miss Freshman” For our Sophomore year we elected David Cooper, president; Dan Campbell, vice-president; Jackie Riley, secretary; Judi Wilson, treasurer; and Greg Edwards, reporter. Jeannie Cooley, Dean Strange, Jackie Riley, Tanya Cartee, Barry Boyce, and Geraldine Clayton served as homeroom presidents. The “Miss Sophomore” title was bestowed upon Pal Watson. Howard Brink and Tanya Cartee were selected as “Pleasing Personalities”. Representing our class on the cheerleading squad were Susan Wingo, Lucy Gibson, and Anna Wingo. bbie Duncan joined the hustling Pantherettes, the 1966 Western AA Chimps. Paulette Gowan served as manager. Joining the “pros” on the gridiron were Kenneth Bradley, Rhett Giddings, Terry Howell, Danny Johnson. Nicky Parris. Tommy Burnett, Gary Peeler, and Vince Brown. Barry Boyce and Sammy Raney were managers. David Cooper became a member of the boy» basketball team. Our class added Barry Boyce and David Cooper to the baseball team. Our Junior year brought many new and rewarding experiences as we became upper-classmen. We were guided by the |following officers: Geraldine Clayton, president; Tanya Cartee. vice president. Howard Brink, secretary Gary Peeler. arter. Homeroom presidents were Dan Campbell, Jeanic Cooley. Pat Watson Greg and Mr. Prince became our two new sponsors. treasurer; and Edwards, and Ann Ruth Ann Fleming was chosen to reign as “Miss Junior”. Representing our school as Furman Martha Jane Campbell, J B. Godfrey, and Michael Wilson. were Judy Correll, Brent Barnette, f J v sNmd Ray Viehnfig aided the Panthers on the basketball team. Joining the veteran baseball players were Brent Barnette, Bobby Smith, Johnny Anderson, and Robbie Waters Rav Viehman, Rhett Giddings, Terry Howell, Greg Edwards, Walden Blantta, Mike Tucker, and Yancey Tuckor added support to the track team. We were very proud of Ray Viehman who set the following records: Conference chanqp.............. the mile, and All-conference in the mile andhalf mile. is the mile and half-frHle, Upper State champ in The following Juniors merited the honor of being Junior Marshals; Jane Campbell, Judy Correll, Merian Smith, Michael Wilson, Steve Epton, Howard Brink, Mary Vernon, Geraldine Zimmerman, Danny Johnson, and Vicki Stevens. Junior band members were all excited as they left to participate in fee f arblina’s Carousel in Charlotte. The climax of Our Junior year was the Junior-Senior Prom whil Nit the Cleveland Hotel The theme was “Moonlight and Roses”. Finally the big day came. SENIORS AT LAST! Directing this memorable year were: Barry Boyce, president; Geraldine Clayton, Vice president; Ruth Ann Fleming, secretary; Geraldine Zimmerman, treasurer; Martha Jane Campbell, reporter-historian. David Morgan, Marsha Aenchbacher! Ruth Cooper, Barbara Pruitt, and Dean Strange served as homeroom presidents. Editing the Chapman High Review and Panorama respectively were Carol Dickson and Vicki Stevens. Glen Busbin became a manager of the football team. Barry Boyce and Danny Johnson joined the basketball team, and Terry Howell, Howard Brink, and Greg Cogdill faithfully supported the baseball team. Geraldine Clayton helped cheer our Panthers to victory. Once again the Pantherettes were Western A A Conference champs. The Band of Gold was invited to participate in the Mountain Laurel Festival in Pineville, Kentucky. Vicki Stevens and Ray Viehman were selected as D.A.R. Good Citizens, and Howard Brink reigned as King Teen. Charlyn Dickson was chosen Miss Senior, and Paulette Gowan, Miss Merry Christmas. As we, the Seniors of 1968, leave Chapman, we carry with us many cherished memories. 16
