It was Mr. Joe Gentry, our principal, who set the rules by which we were to abide. We made a success as a freshman class under the direction of our class officers who were Randy Burrell, president; Kathy Jackson, vice-president; Ginger Wingo, secretary; Joanne McMillin, treas- urer; Vicki Bradley, reporter. Homeroom presi- dents were Keith Coleman, Kenneth Gowan, Frances Guy, Sheila Howard, and Merle Wilson. Those we chose as ’’Pleasing Personalities” were Randy Burrell and Ginger Wingo. Frances Guy represented us on the cheerleading squad. Our sophomore class officers were — presi- dent, Merle Wilson; vice-president, Sheila Howard, secretary, Kathy Jackson; treasurer, Wanda Bal- lew; reporter, Randy Burrell. Joining our team as sponsors were Miss LetitiaGalbraith and Mrs. Ada Brown. Our homeroom presidents were Wanda Bal- lew, Toney Boozer, Vicki Bradley, Suzanne Mar- low, Wally Smith, and Jenny Stephens. Jenny Stephens won the title of ’’Miss Sopho- more” while Sheila Howard was elected as the first ’’Miss Merry Christmas” and also as Homecoming Queen. Cheering our teams during their sophomore and junior years were Frances Guy and Sheila How- ard. Mr. Fred R. Fraley took over as principal of Chapman during our sophomore and junior years. Many new and exciting events awaited us in our junior year as we became upper classmen. Chosen by our faculty as Furman Scholars were Jean Grigg, Randy Burrell, Dianne Runion, and Wayne Wilson. The theme The Romantic South served as the background for a most successful Junior-Senior Prom. Although we suffered many backaches and many tiresome hours, it was well worth the effort as we watched the admiring glances of all who at- tended. Clemson Band Day, Carolina Carousel, New York World's Fair, and the U.S.C. Band Day were a few of the major events in which our band mem- bers participated. ON YOUR MARK - GET SET - GO - SENIORS! The time had finally come when we could relive the tradition of parading before the underclassmen and displaying our newly gained treasures — our class rings. There is always so much to teach the new staffers. There are positions to assign, layout principles to be taught, a theme to select, ads to solicit, the Miss Panorama contest to plan, and over everything looms the colossal tasks of meeting those deadlines. But the Advisor and the former staffers roll up their sleeves with determination and confidence. Eventually the staff becomes organized and efficient. Over several months the members emerge scholars in the art of yearbook making. Each has gained self-respect that comes from doing one's best, has developed talents, and has become an important part of the whole. Club and Photo Editor, Carol Aenchbacher.
