Special Events T Draw Crowds is wily The Orientation Assembly and Open House were intended to acquaint both the student and parents with the policies and cur- riculum of Chaparral High School. The Orientation Assembly was held on September 8 for the ltth and l2th grades and on September 9 for the 9th and 1Oth grades. The administration was introduced and the students S were informed of policies that would concern them throughout the school year. Open House was held on September 29, in the gym. Students and their parents were both invited to attend, The administration was again introduced. Mr. Olsen gave a short speech and then presented lVlr. Long and Mr. McDowell with their 20 year pins. Parents were then invited to visit their childrens' rooms and speak with their teachers. Refreshments were served by the Booster Club while the Cheerleaders and Songleaders provided assistance in finding rooms, N I-2 1. Chaparral's Student Body is represented by the 12 mem- bers of the Executive Council and the Student Body Offi- cers. This year there was a Leadership class, conducted by Mrs. Doris Moore, for the officers, council members and other student leaders. This class was to be used for plan- ning activities for the Student Body. The Leadership class sponsored a Blood Drive on January 13. They also worked on getting all active clubs chartered and to construct a constitution. The school con- stitution was worked on by the Leadership class. After many corrections and additions the constitution was brought before the school for ratifica- tion. Many other activities were planned and conducted by f the Student Council, such as ' having the mural painted in the gym, pep assemblies, sponsoring the buses to go to the Dixie football game, Homecoming, Christmas Tree Decoration Contest, and the Computer Dance. The Coun- cil also presented each class with a contribution of 35200.00 for class activities. The objectives of the Stu- dent Council are to promote unity, spirit, and pride throughout the school. student council f 17

mqgrqv A it 3 X-M . 1 Orange Field Is Cowboy Country The Dedication of Orange Field took place on Friday, November 12, 1976 at 7:15 p.m. The program consisted of music by both the Chaparral and the Woodbury Jr. High Marching Bands. Mr. Olsen gave the introduction and the colors were posted by the Chaparral N.J.Ft.O.T.C. under the direction of Commander William Shields. Dr. Thurman White, Associate Superintendent, gave the dedication address and Mr. Earl Evans, Jr., President of the Board of Trustees, had the honor of cutting the ribbon.
