Q ....X. A Students who' are fortunate enough to play a part in opening a new high school have an opportunity to set tradition for the school for a long time to come: perhaps for a period of fifty years. At Chaparral the 2400 students enrolled, including the class of 1975, have set a tone of community service and a tradition of enthusiasm and progress that should endure for many years. Already the first trophy in athletics has been brought home- a first place for the girls' golf team in zone competition this year. As of this writing, the Cowboy wrestling team stands in first place in the Southern Zone and is. looking forward to adding new honors to the school. The drill team won first place in competition at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The band, mixed chorus, and girls' glee club have earned superior ratings both locally and in competition in California. So far thirty-eight clubs and organizations serve both the school and the community and all of them were organized by students. Community service projects have been numerous, including the novel service provided by the Fishing Club in organizing fishing parties for the blind and for the students of Helen I. Stewart School. Chaparral shares with Eldorado the honor of being first in the state with a Naval ROTC unit-a program that holds promise for all students regardless of future military service. Interestingly, one of the major issues of the 1975 state legislature was the Equal Rights Amendment. However, Chaparral's NROTC unit has included girls since its inception in 1973. You and your fellow graduates will leave a strong foundation and an enviable legacy to those who come after you. I sincerely hope that the students who follow you at Chaparral High School will carry on the traditions established by you, the first graduating class-1975. Q K K dedlcation!29
