Tl'-1 if L AN .. 1X V E Q Wi- . f GX Q5 l ! i N I J C ORCHESTRA It may be truthfully said that the orchestra is one of the most valuable organiza- tions in the school. When Chaney was opened! in 1926, the orchestra was founded under the direction of Mr. A. L. Sanders. From a group of beginning musicians it has developed into an imp-ortant factor of school and community activities. Only the best classical music is used, for jazz is not tolerated or used at Chaney in the instru- mental music department. The senior orchestra plays for all school assemblies an-di affairs, as well as for the numerous commencement functions. Mem-bers of the orchestra have been selected for the yearly all-city high s-chool onchestra which takes part in the annual concerts at the Stambaugh Auditorium. Their ability has been recognized through numerous re- quests to play at banquets, P. T. A. meetings, civic affairs, Community Chest Cam- paigns, dedicatory exercises and many other meetings. Much credit is idiue the orchestra for the valuable work they have done in building Chaney's fame throughout the city and state. DIFCCIOF .,....,....,,..,,.,..,. ..,. M r. A. L. 319 Q Q BAND ' The stirring music of the Chaney Band has often spurred Chaney teams on to vic- tory. Half the zest and spirit of an athletic contest is missing if the band is not present to put spirit into the minds of the rooters as well as the players. A most pic- turesque setting is formed when the band marches down the field to the rhythm of spirited music with -colorful banners flying. Athletic contests are not the only place where the band excels. Parades, civic events, meetings, assemblies an-d' pep rallies find the Chaney band present in their flashy uniforms, ready to do their part in making these affairs successes. On January 14 it playedl several sele-ctions for the Benefit Shoe Fund Concert at Stambaugh Audi- torium. On February 12 it played for the dedication of the new West Side fire equip- ment, for which the entire West Side turned out. The uniforms, consisting of a cape and overseas hat are fashioned in the school colors, scarlet and gray. Director ,...... .,.. M r. A. L. Sanders Student Director . . . . , .
