'KA good education is a result of obedience as opposed to simply having brainsf, declares Mr. Gary Merrill, who has been selected for this year's yearbook dedication. Mr. Merrill has been teaching at Chandler Junior High School for Zl lf2 years. A few of his interests are chess, reading, and a good squirt gun fight. His educational background includes at- tending Arizona State University and the State University of New York. He has attained a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Science degree in Mathematics. He had recently completed his Administrative Certificate. Other achieve- ments include the publishing of several articles in the maga- zine Vision , Mr. Merrill has been active in many different academic committees, which have included: the training of teachers in the use of Essential Elements of Instruction QEED, helping to organize the math curriculum, and writing test items for the district. Mr. Merrill is the math department chairman. He has previously or is currently teaching the following subjects: Algebra ll, Algebra I, Pre-Algebra, General Mathematics, and the G.E.M.S. Program. When asked what he enjoys most about his job, Mr., Mer- rill says that he likes people young and old, and he likes the challenge of communicating knowledge to others. Mr. Mer- rill truly is creating a NEW HORIZONN for those around him.
