Ambition: To make Life Successful Annual St a Senior 4ji5tottj 1953 There we were green as grass and scared to death. Our sponsor was Mr. Turney and we had forty students in our class. We were very proud of Gary Lockhart playing on the varsity team and Ann Baker as cheerleader. Darlene Walters and Gary Lockhart were king and queen for the Spring Festival. Our class officers were: Darril Utley, president; Reuben Watson, vice-president; Mary Jewell, secretary and treasurer; Melba Forston, news reporter. We also enjoyed our class trip to Mesker Park for a picnic. 1954 Then we began the sophomore year with thirty-eight students and Mr. Cato as our sponsor. Our class officers that year were: Mary Jewell, president; Gale Lockhart, vice- president; Phyllis Russell, secretary and treasurer; Sally Teutsch, news reporter. We were very proud of the boys on the varsity team. They were: Gary Fisher, Reuben Wat- son, and Gary Lockhart. We went to Wyandotte Cave on our class trip. We enjoyed it very much. 1955 Then came the next year in which we started with thirty-eight students and Mrs. Ellis and Miss Kincaid were our sponsors. Class officers were: Reuben Watson, pres- ident; Darlene Walters, vice-president; David Cole, secretary and treasurer; Mary Jewell, news reporter. Ann Baker was cheerleader from our class and many of our boys played on the varsity team. The juniors had as much fun practicing as they did present- ing the play, It's Great To Be Crazy , directed by Mrs. Ellis, to make money for the Junior and Senior Prom. The big event of the year was the Junior and Senior Prom at Evansville College Union Building. Our theme was Blue Moon . 1956 Now at last, the last year at Chandler High School. Mr. Waters is our sponsor for this year. There were twenty-eight students still together for one last try. Our class colors are blue and white, our class flower is a red rose, and our motto is, United We Stand, Divided We Fall . Class officers are: Dennis Raven, president; Charlene Schnapf, vice-president; Mary Jewell, secretary; Gary Lockhart, treasurer; Mike Hemenway, news reporter. Reuben Watson, Gary Lockhart, Larry Fisher, and Donald Hunt were on the varsity team. We were very proud to have two senior girls chosen as cheerleaders. They were Gale Lockhart and Wilma Willis. The basketball queen this year was Ann Bak- er; her runner-up was Billie Sue Reeder who served as an attendant. Our class had a magazine campaign to make money for the class trip. Wilma Willis was high salesman in the campaign. We are all looking forward to the Prom and our class trip. On our class trip we are planning to take in the sights at Washington D. C. We are taking Mr. and Mrs. Null as our sponsors for the trip. Then comes the happiest days of our lives, when we walk up that long aisle, toward success and many happy futures for the rest of our lives : Graduation. la 5 Poem Let's take Jimmy In his snazzy Ford, Linda's by his side And never by the door. Now take Kathryn She's really a doll, And for her David She stays in style. Let's put Donnie Behind the wheel, And when he drags He gets a good deal. Along as we climb the hill We bring Charlene up to the mill, Her personality you can't beat And as a friend she is all reat. Now take Gary He is never contrary, And at basketball He never tarried. On February 1st If you can recall, Ann Baker was crowned Queen of basketball. In a '37 Ford You just might find Mike, And with pretty pep Anita He goes out each nite. Now let's take Dean She's on the beam, And when she's with Sharon She's really a scream. Remember Dennis He was never a menace. But when it comes to Judy He's really a genius. Her life-long ambition Is in the air lines, Let's hope she makes it Cause, Marian, you'll do fine There's a girl named Gale Ann Who always led the fans, As a cheerleader She was really grand. Now there's Gale Gill Out at Wright's, Fixin' up hot dogs All thru the night. Billie Sue with her laugh So loud. When she is with Leo She is really proud. With Gary Jeffries His bark and roar, When he makes a speech He takes the floor. Dot and Darrell Make a cute couple. Sometimes later They'll make it a double. Then comes Reuben In his snazzy green Ford, He always takes Patty Wherever he can afford. Now take Phyllis Out with Andy, As a couple They'll make it dandy. Kay and Larry Are a snazzy pair, In his little Plymouth They sail thru the air. 14 There's a girl named Wilma Who's never quiet. As a cheerleader She's a riot. Donald Dee Who drives a Chewy, Is always around. And as nice as he can be. There's Mary Lou Who's not spoken for, But someday her prince Will come along in a car. Her ambition we find Will keep her in line, Melba Forston R. N. Will be doing fine. Mary Frances Jewell As an eighth grader came to our school, And ever since Faithfully followed the rules. Sally got a diamond Much to our surprise. It sparkles so much It hurts your eyes. Joyce Broshears is next in line When with Charles, she feels fine. As a couple they are tops Before long they will tie the knot. Now let's take The girl named Betty, As of now Don seems to be her steady. Mr. James R. Null You're the best of them all. That is why we have dedicated Our annual to you this fall. We hope the classes Throughout the following years. Will realize how much they need you And always give you cheers. Graduation is the next Big thing in our life, Who can say how Our lives will change that day. Which way, what way. Will we choose to go, There will be cheers And maybe a few tears. But one thing sure we know We will remember you, Wherever we go Throughout all the years. Now this rounds up our poems For the senior class. We know and we feel That they will always last. 1?e ni ot Ig55 top he cie 5 Dear Ann, February 20, 1967 I was delighted to receive your letter. I was really and truly shocked to see the post- mark. I knew you and Bob were married and that Bob was an army surgeon, but I didn't think the army would send him to Siberia. I understand the weather is just a little chilly. I will try to tell you about the rest of our graduation class. Betty Sutton is one of the country's highest paid fashion models in the modeling field. She has an apartment in New York, but lives in Italy most of the time. Her husband is a concert maestro and studies at the Italian Conservatory of Music. Reuben Watson went to Texas and bought a farm. The story of his success is almost too good to be true. One day he was spading the ground outside of a window sill for a flower garden. What do you think happened? He struck oil! He is now one of the wealth- iest men in Texas. Dorothy Healy's talent swayed toward the movie kingdom. It seems she was making a soda at Kresge's and a movie talent scout saw her and took her to Hollywood to make a movie. Lsat year she won the Academy Award. Wilma Willis always did like the name of Holland. She won an all expense paid, round the world trip. When she got to Holland, she met the nephew of the queen. You know the rest of the story. She married him and is now raising tulips in Holland. Joyce Broshears married her soldier and is now the mother of twins. She lives in Florida on an orange farm. Her children will never lack vitamins. Mike Hemenway is following in the footsteps of his uncle. He is in the state legisla- ture and is thinking about running for state senator next year. Billie Sue Reeder went to visit her cousin in Canada. She went for a walk in the forest one day and got lost. Who would find her but a handsome Canadian Royal Mounted Police- man. She is still in Canada somewhere following him and the last we heard of them, they were raising huskies for snow sleds. Gary Jeffries is married and is now going to Annapolis. After getting out of the navy, one of the state senators recommended him for appointment. Larry Fisher served his time in service and liked it so well that he stayed in. Only Larry likes the dry climate so well that he went to the Sahara Desert and joined the Foreign Legion. Melba Forston finished her nurse's training and worked at a hospital in Evansville for a while. Then she decided that she would rather work in research. She is now one of the best known chemists in the country. Gale Lockhart decided to try her hand at comic strip writing; her comic strip is now the most widely read one in the United States. You've probably heard of it, Drips of Water Street . Dennis Raven is considered national daredevil now. He has been driving in the Indianapolis 500 for the last seven years, and has won the last four times. The Ford Company is putting out a new car known as the Flying Raven. Donald Hunt stowed away on a freighter and went all the way to China before the cap- tain found him. He started working his way home and wound up in South Africa. He went to work in the daimond mines there and it was there that he found the famous Hunt Diamond. Gary Lockhart decided that it was about time someone flew to the moon to see if it is really made of green cheese. He went on a rocket ship by way of Mars and Jupiter and made the first successful flight to the moon. The moon is not made of cheese, but Gary found out something much more interesting; there are only women on the moon. It seems the Martians had too many women so they transplanted part of them to the moon. Gary went back, destroyed his space ship, and hasn't been heard of since. Carma Deanna Reynolds is now the richest woman in the country. It seems while she was in the pharmacy working one day, she accidentally spilled one potion into another and came up with a formula for growing hair on bald-headed men. She is the nation's Sweetheart of Bald-headed Men . Jimmy Roll is the owner of the largest kennels of beagles in the state. He is the president of the National Beagle Organization. He is the father of a boy and a girl. Linda always did demand equal rights. Charlene Schnapf is now the largest stockholder in the General Motors Corporation. Therefore, she is president and chairman of the board. The President of the United States asked her to build him a car in which he, his fellow players, golf clubs, and golf balls can ride in. Phyllis Russell married and is living in Puerto Rico. She and her husband bought an old Spanish fort and they turned it into a tourist court. Mary Lou Thene has won great acclaim for her accordion playing. She is now going into the professional field. Also, she is married and has one daughter. Sally Teutsch married and is living in Arkansas. She lives on a mountain side and raises goats. She is crazy about her three children. Kathryn Williams and her husband live somewhere in Asia. Her husband is in the army and is stationed there. Kathryn always liked horses, but there are none there. So what do you think her hobby is? Raising camels. Gale Gill quit his job out at Wright's. He is now the owner of a large fleet of whal- ing boats in Alaska. He is hunting for the legendary white whale. Mary Frances Jewell is in France with her husband of the Marquis Marcey. She lives in a small home (about 150 rooms) along the ocean. The last time I saw her was aboard their yacht which was cruising in the Mediterranean. Donnie Copeland is now married and owns a race track that is world famous. He told me that his wife has everything and he doesn't know what to buy her for her birthday, but maybe another race track named after her. As for myself, I'm an airline hostess. I thought my career was going to be exciting, but my job and life is mild compared to the rest of the class. Even with my travels all over the world, you probably see more of the class than I do. Please write soon. Yours truly. 7ke Will I, Marian Algaier, will my slim ankles to Earlene Keller I, Ann Baker, will my popularity to Sharon Broshears. Norma Fisher and Linda Koerner were chosen as cheerleaders. At the end of the year we went to Spring Mill. Before long we were in the last year of 1955 and way up to the freshman class. Mr. Chapman was our sponsor this year. The class officers were: president, Carlton Scott; vice-president, Bob Fisher; secretary, Jackie Vickery; treasurer, Sidney Gerber; and news reporter, Charles Conner. Again, we have a good team even though we are only freshies , and Norma Fisher as cheerleader. Now we are silly sophomores and are looking forward to ordering our rings for high school. We have already received our jackets. We are proud to have some of the boys playing on the varsity team this year. Norma Fisher was elected cheerleader. Our officers for this year are : president, Rosemary Teutsch; vice-president, Alpha Jones; secretary, Marcella Mortimer; treasurer, Carolyn Bradfield. We are looking forward to our trip this year and to the coming years ahead of us in high school. 31 1st row, left to right: T. Whitmer, D. Bennett, D. Michel, L. Williams, B. Townsend, G. Our class officers were: president, Leroy Hildebrant; vice-president, Frank Spencer; secretary, Marion May; and treasurer, Linda Williams. Our reporters were Dana Bruce and Doris Hetzel. Our basketball team was pretty good that year. Don Roll, Larry Simpson, Robert Buckman, Johnnie Eidson, Jack Bock, Leroy Hildebrant and several other boys dressed out. The following Friday night, Tennyson was conquered on their own gym floor again by Coach Bob Chapman's firing squad. We made four victories but Mater Dei turned up with an extra four points. Through the season, we had won eleven games with four losses, then February 1, we crowned our basketball queen, Ann Baker, and Reuben Watson, our big guard, tallied in thirty-two points. Millersburg was defeated that night with a score of 59-96. Here we are now at the last of the season with Wilma Willis, Gale Lockhart, and Norma Fisher still leading the fans with the yells. We broke two records playing Bristow by making the score of 103-73. Larry Simpson broke the shooting average by hitting 18 baskets and 4 free throws to make it forty points for the night. While Indiana has had difficulty projecting the name of the basketball all-stars, we will long remember Gary Lockhart for his outstanding performance; Reuben Watson, for becoming famous beyond the borders; Donald Hunt, winding up the championship games and Larry Fisher, strong in a department in which Chandler excels. At the moment, though, the promise and problems of a new basketball squad, the fans, the cheerleaders, must remain secondary to the more exultant voice of Bob Chapman, Chandler Coach. This won't be much for him though, for we as seniors know that Chandler will have a good ball team, good sports, as long as we have more players like our seniors .
