Mr. Raymond Pat- ton is serving in his seventh year as superintendent. BOARD OF EDUC TIO The Board of Education and Superintendent, acting as governing agents, set new board policies con- cerning overnight trips, began a road construction project, and were instrumental in building im- provements. Board members for 1974, from left to right STANDING, are: Jody McLain, Ken Seitz, Glenn Nichols, president, Tom Alsip, Raymond Pat- ton, and Harry Wiese. PRINCIPAL Seeing that the business of the school is performed efficiently and effectively is a demanding task and Principal Lee Henderson undertakes each task diligently. From writing admit slips to setting up public-address equipment at ballgames to listen- ing to problems of students and teachers, his day seems endless. This school year marks his fourth year as principal. When asked of opinions concerning the school, Mr. Henderson remarked that students appear more mature in attitude and were making better use of the educational advantages afforded them. Mrs. Billie Gibson and Mrs. Alma Lee perform such varied tasks as filling lunch orders to ac- counting the school budget, to keeping records of absences. Student in- volvement has made these courses meaningful. ACademiCS!49 AN GUAGE RTS A teacher affects eternityg he can never tell where his in- fluence stops. ln language arts the student learns communica- tion skills, everything from writing and speaking correctly to analyzing literature and philosophizing on how it affects mankind and the individual. The new instructor in French has brought a rich heritage of French to her students. They have responded with enthusiasm. 50!Academics COMMU IC TIONS D JOUR LISM A man cannot speak but he judges and reveals himself'l To speak and to reason effectively is a valuable asset that CHS students can use throughout their adult lives. These are the goals set forth in the Speech I class. Serving the high school in many ways is the journalism class as they put in many hard hours on the annual and the school newspaper and the alumni paper. Skills in journalistic writing provide opportunity for future employment. Academics!51 si - iiiiiiik' iii . . K . O ECO OMICS The girls at CHS enter a many-faceted field of endeavor when they go into the Home-Economics department. They pursue a wide variety of home- related knowledge, everything from macrame, needlepointing, sewing and cooking to consumer informa- tion. d . .- i 7 giij g-'iii : ,. In Vo-Ag, they gain skill in such areas as welding and judging cattle, sheep, and swine. ln Woodshop, the boys learn to handle tools correctly and to develop the ability to take wood and make useful forms from it. ACademiCS!53 ,liaise Wx SHORTHAN AND TYPI G Relevant courses such as typ- ing and shorthand are in great demand at CHS. The students learn these skills which are valuable in securing them employment or for use in college. l l Academics!55 DRI ER'S ED AN RT Daily taking their lives into their hands, the Driver's Education in- structors set about to teach 15 year-olds the art of driving cor- rectly. The students learn this ability in a 1975 Chevrolet Caprice provided by Hart Chevrolet. Creativity is the name of the game and this activity goes on in room 10. lt is the scene of much talent as everyone develops their artistic ability. Deadlines found staffers frantically taking photos, identifying people, and designing pages. Anticipation, patience, organization, orders, nerves, and worry are some of the exclusive in- gredients that helped produce this yearbook. Double duties took place third hour as the Journalism Class provided a monthly publication of The Lion's Roar .
