This team was one of the hardest hustling ever fielded at Chandler. The Lions opened their 1953 campaign with a 38-O de- feat at the hands of a fine Midwest City team, which later went to the state Class A finals before losing. Thursday, September 18, found the Lions travel- ing to St. Gregory. They came out on the winning end of a 14-6 decision, which proved to be quite a tussle before it was over. The following Friday the Pawnee Bears came to town. The Bears went on a scoring spree in the first half and led the Lions 20-0 at half-time. The Lions shoved across one tally in the third stanza, but couldn't even the score and lost 20-7. Next on the Lions list was Yale, which was the first conference game for the Lions. They won this one 34-7. On the 16th of October, the Lions played their toughest game of the season against Davenport.
