Tedication EDWARD VICARY MABEL GILLIAN We, the graduating class of 1948, do hereby dedicate this yearbook to these three people who have sponsored us throughout our high school career. They have given un- selfishly of their time and ef- fort to help make possible the many things which have been so beneficial to us. They have inspired us to higher ideals and better ways of thinking. In choosing to dedicate the '48 Lion to these sponsors, we honor not only them, but all teachers who have devoted their lives to the guidance of youth. C. SHAFER ' BASIL WAGNER President fBoa'rd of Education In behalf of the Chandler stu- dents, we wish to extend our appre- ciation to these members of the Board of Education who have given freely of their time and efforts to further every interest of our school. We can be assured of the future of the Chandler schools under the guidance of such capable and com- PERRY c. MYERS petem men' DR. c. w. ROBERTSON Basil Wagner, Iessr: Berry, Perry C. Myers, Dr, C. W. Robertson. Rav S. Shafer, and Supt. Phillins. The students of Chandler high school are to be congrat- ulated because of their splendid school spirit and their record of achievement over a period of years. Our school has re- ceived favorable state-wide recognition because of the co- operative efforts put forth by Lion representatives in scholar- ship, athletics, music and speech activities. High school faculty members have done their part in giving conscientious instructions to our students in the var- ious departments. To them the interests of the students have been paramount. Without their loyal co-operation the school would not have the constructive, progressive enthusiasm now characteristic of the institution. It has been a pleasure to be associated with the Chandler school faculty and students during the past three years. Dave Phillips Superintendent A. I. CLEMONS Principal D. E. PHILLIPS Superintendent The Chandler High School students are still a challenge and inspiration to me. You have been an enthusiastic group and I hope that you have acquired in the halls and class rooms of Chandler High a quality of culture and sense of values that will enable you to live up to the best of your abil- ity. We hope too, that you will be able to reject and separate the counterfeit and cheap from the true, the beautiful, and the good, and preserve and increase that which elevates and enriches your life and' character. We feel confident also that you are developing the facul- ties of mind that will enable you to acquire the better things in life. To the future for you-Godspeed and smooth sailing. A. I. Prague 7 o 6 o o Shelby Wyatt 0 Coach 6 o o The Lion's 1947 football team will go down in history as one of the greatest teams that Chandler has ever produced. The speedy hard-charging forward wall of the unde- feated, untied Chandler Lions cleared the path for backs and ends to roll up a total of 4075 yards running and forward passing in nine games. The Lions were led by the superb coaching of Shelby Wyatt, who favored the Minnesota single wingback system. This is the first time in many years that a Chandler team has gone undefeated. So hats off to the boys who gave Chandler a winning team and a fine sportsmanship record. A TEAM First Row: Conrad Hart, Bobby Burger, Gene Allen, loc Young, Iohnny Taber, Ross Conley, lesse Wiseman. Their next game was with the county champions from Meeker who had previously defeated the Lions three times. The Lions edged the Bulldogs in an overtime tilt and played the tall Stroud team in the finals. The boys from Stroud were too much for the smaller Lions. The Lions played a number of strong teams and therefore did not have an impressive record. They were a hot-and-cold team all season but played many excellent games. Their season record was I4 lost and I3 won. Bud Cowden and Don Bierman, snazzy forwards, played every game throughout the season and were mainstays on both the ,47 and '48 teams. These dependable players were counted on heavily by the Lions. Dave Hargroves filled the center position capably the first half of the season. All three of these boys were seniors this year. Hayles Trent and Bill Cochran, speedy guards, were noted for their fine ball handling which brought the Lion's many victories. Bud Godsoe and Bob Gattis, defensive aces, were depended on by the Lions to get the ball off the backboard. These boys will be back next season to help the club. ' Ierry Cross and Kenneth Ingram, capable reserves, saw action in every game and will be depended on heavily next year. B TEAM First Row: Coach Wyatt, Gary Wilson, Gene Allen, L. E. Alford. The Lionettes started the past season with poor prospects having only four of last year's squad regulars. With untried material making the starting line-up, the girls have won 20 games losing only 5. They hold three trophies, the second-place from the Wellston tourna- ment, the second-place from the County tournament, and tied for first-place in the Double- Six Conference. One of the outstanding seniors of the team was LaWanda Sprague, guard, who started in every game for the past three years and was acting team-captain. Also outstanding was Doris Kelly, forward, who holds the Lincoln County All-Time high scoring record for one game with 38 points. Other seniors on this excellent team were Mary Freeman, guard, who was a four year letter-girl and Ruby Hopper, forward, who is also a four year letter-girl. The juniors starring on the team were Ioan Taylor, guard, and Eileen Edmonson, forward. Outstanding sophomores were Dorothy Manning, guard, and Wilma Forbes, forward. Other lettering members were Opal Mae Lovely, Betty Arterberry, Elnora Lewis, Virginia Hutchinson, Reta Reid, Wanda Mendenhall, and Wanda Orr.
