After going 27-0 last season, the Girls Varsity Basketball Team is ex- pected to have an enthusiastic year. The team, with five returning players, had two goals for the season: try to win as many games as possible and qualify for the Divisional Tournament. Areas in which the girls thought they needed the most improvement were the fast break, team defense, and attitudes toward each other. Said Coach Rich- ard Pacheco, Every girl on the team will contribute in one way or the other, and no one can ever predict if our team will go undefeated. Anything can hap- pen during a season, so therefore you just take one game at a time, and hope for the best. AS TERRIE MYERS shoots a basket, Mari Ar' zaga attempts to block. Lack of experience and no height was a major factor against the group of ten sophomores, but their ability to more the ball and willingness to learn were points in their favor. Coach Tru- man said of the girls, I see improve- ment each day and that is all that I ex- pect from them. The returning players are looking better at this time as compared to the same time last year. A strong new addition is Jill Hamilton a freshman, who is ranked in her age division in the Southwest and ranked nationally. Despite the toughness of op- ponents like Saguaro and Marcos de Niza, tennis players plan on being more consistent and aggressive at the HCI. paring for the Spring season.
