J.V.'S UNITE T0 BEAT J-RABBITS ff The J .V. football players, coached by Bob Noel, Ralph lVIorgan, and Sam Stout, suc- cessfully ended their season with a 5 win, 5 loss record. The biggest win of the year was the defeat over Mesa. No permanent co-captains were chosen so the players traded this position every game. Leading the defense for the team throughout the year were Frankie Brown, Dan Fletcher, and Kelly Stout. Mark Truxal was the outstand- ing offensive player, having scored seven touchdowns dur- ing the season. RUNNERS RANK HIGH IN BEST SEASON EVER The cross country runners, directed by Coach Dusick, put in much time and effort to achieve their goals. They rose early each morning to run ten miles from six o'clock to seven o'clock and then ran again after school from two o'clock to six-thirty for an addi- tional fifteen to seventeen miles. Mike Torres holds the school record of 16:15 and was the top Chandler runner. He placed nine- teenth in the Thunderbird Invitational, twenty-fifth in the Tempe Daily News meet, and took a sixteenth in divisionals. He holds the distinction of being the first four-year letterman at Chandler High School. Manuel Lucero,with a best time of 16:40 was another quick runner, placing eleventh in the novice at Thunderbird Invitational and seventh in the Tempe Daily News meet. Time for the other runners were: Terry James-16:55, Ben Hancock-16:50, Greg Layman-17:09 , and Hector Hernandez-17:27. The J .V . team also did well this year with runners Miguel Terrazas, Jessie Mendoza, Kevin Filut, Chuck Romberger, Charlie Coleman, and Kelly Parson .
