The lireroom boys really take care of those high pressure kettles, and when underway orders come, they supply the steam power to the main . . . . h. er engines that turn the screws. The mam engines and auxiliary mac in y are operated and maintained by the Engine Room force with the care that is given all valuable and intricate machines. R Every man has his task down below and knows it thoroughly, but probably the most important item is R -be his rate fireman second class or machinist's mated first .class-can R ng falls the job of not only that each and every man in the Engine oom ' f the main plant IS concerned. actually get the ship underway alone, lnso ar as f ' the event of casualties every man is cap- The value of this is obvious, or in able of taking the place of anyone else and the ship can still function.
