In recognition of many years of devoted service to CHAMPLAIN COLLEGE both in the classroom and on the campus and, in particular, for the thoughtful and patient day-by-day assistance and counsel extended to countless numbers of individual students, we proudly dedicate the 1970 EXECUTIVE to Mr. and Mrs. Leland R. Brooks Lee and Louise I PRESIDENTS MESSAGE 1970 Spring is a time for reflection as well as anticipation, and with the passing of another year, there is much to look back upon and, happily, much to be grateful for. For you who are graduating, it has been a year ofwork and progress, culminating in success. For the freshmen who have achieved- senior status, it is also an accomplishment - you are halfway there. The way in which you young men and women have grasped the nettle of hard work and made it the means to your goal is a source of satisfaction to us all, And as we have watched, you have matured in other ways - ways ofwhich you may be only partly aware. For it seems to me that all of you have, to a greater or less degree, come to terms with the uncertainties of life, and have not been dismayed, and that, as a result, you find them not as formid- able as they may have seemed from a distance. The precariousness of the future, like a mirage, tends to diminish as one reaches it. ' You have the gift of laughter and a capacity for enjoyment - in spite of disappointments, and sometimes in the face of tragedy. You have shown a sense of values which allows you to distin- guish between reality and fantasy, sincerity and hypocrisy. We see in you, too, a healthy share of hope for what lies ahead, and we urge you to nurture it and make it grow. Hope is a valuable commodity that has oflate been rather tarnished by the cynicism with which some of your generation regard an apparently hostile environment. The world has al- ways been and will continue to be essentially unpredictable. What is around the corner of another year is unknown and always has been. If mankind is to survive, hope must be a basic ingredient of our lives. Add to hope faith and a resolve to work for the good of family, community and nation, and you will advance the cause of humanity throughout the world. A prosperous journey, may all of you fulfill your destinies. ' Sincerely yours,, GW C. Bader Brouilette anis TI R ..iW'fLL..ST5gET JOUHNAI f H.2?,2 Yvhmwgtfw ' C.
