The club is aTTiliaTed wiTh The NaTional RiTle AssociaTion oT America. Since iTs incepTion The club has direcTed iTs eTTorTs Toward readying The pisTol range Tor Tiring This spring, and Then will work on The riTle range bringing iT back To iTs Tormer excellenT condiTion. A course oT insTrucTion To learn The duTies oT a SWORDSMEN S CLUB ln The spring quarTer oT I947, several Tencing devoTees conceifed The idea Tor a sTudenT club Through which They could conTinue Their pracTice and obTain insTrucTion. Joe Browne. vice-presidenT during The Tall semesTer, was one oT The sTudenTs who conTribuTe'd much oT his Time To The various deTails involved in The organizaTion oT The club. lvlr. ShorT of The Physics DeparTmenT was asked To serve as an insTrucTor. AppropriaTe liTeraTure was issued, and The TirsT meeTing was aTTended by a small buT inTeresTed group oT sTudenTs. Some oT The mem- bers had had previous Tencing experience, buT mosT oT Them were beginners who desired insTrucTion and guidance in The arT. The club proved popular enough To conTinue inTo The Tall semesTer OT I947, and many new sTudenTs prompTly ioined. ElecTions were held in OcTober, aT which Time Bill Wuerz was elecTed presidenT, and PaT Owens, secreTary-Treasurer. The Swordsman's Club has meT in The gymnasium Three Times weekly ThroughouT The year. Mr. ShorT insTrucTed Those inTeresTed in saber, while Joe Browne, assisTed on occasions by Tom Ansbro, aT- TempTed To improve The Technique oT beginners. Campus aclivilies were nor neglecied, however. The League gave a receplion for new sludenls and lhe lacully and several 'rea dances for lhe siudenl body.
