The session on cooperaTives was especially fruiTful in ThaT iT inspired a group of sTudenTs To in- vesTigaTe The possibiliTy of seTTing up a coopera- Tive crediT union on campus. A quesTionnaire was prepared To sound ouT The sTudenT body as To wheTher They would supporf such an underTaking. AlThough The resulTs were negaTive, The experience of following Through such a proiecT was well worTh The Time and efforT expended. The maioriTy of The meefings were conducfed by sTudenT panels followed by discussion-generally prolonged far beyond The official close of The meeT- ing. FaculTy, ouTside speakers, and movies were em- ployed To enliven The session, and a large group of , .JK Mr. BerTram Gross speaking aT The Campus TheaTer. A conference of The execuTive commiTTee of The Economics SocieTy. WaTer Broderick, President Miss Eleanor Finger and Dr. Niebyl of The Economics DeparTmenTg and Alan Lauck- ner, SecreTary. sTudenTs aTTended consTanTly. Two evenings drew special aTTenTion noT only from The faiThfuls buT also from a large parT of The sTudenT body. ln a ioinT meeTing wiTh The Amer- ican VeTerans' CommiTTee, Dr. Karl l-l. Niebyl, Asso- ciaTe Professor of Economics, discussed The conTro- versial TafT-T-larTley Law. Then, shorTly afTer The ChrisTmas vacaTion, The Economics SocieTy sponsored The appearance of Mr. BerTram Gross, AssisTanT To The Chairman of The Council of Economic Advisors. Speaking be- fore a large audience in The TheaTer, he discussed aT lengTh The all-imporTanT Task of The council in helping The PresidenT recommend To Congress meas- ures deemed necessary To mainTain economic sTa- biliTy in The UniTed STaTes.
