Codding who re- cently retired as Third Supervisory District Superintendent after thirty-four years of service to the youth of the North Country. To The Class of 1958: You are soon to graduate from Champlain Central during one of the most challenging periods of our national life. To each one will be assigned the task of making his life worthwhile to himself and to others, a very serious matter; calling for all the strength of character that you have. To think straight, to work hard, to play fair is the only way I know that can lead to a useful and successful life. I have known most of you for many years. Despite the fact that the class is housed in two separate buildings the general morale has been steady and strong. There has been a marked spirit of co- operation with the faculty and administration towards the attainment of better educational conditions in the area. Many of you have come to me from time to time for advice and help. Let me ask you to re- member, when you leave Champlain Central, to think of me, as I shall think of you, as a friend and fellow worker in the great task of life. With Best Wishes. The Champlain Central School Rockets, coached by Frank Shumway, became league champions for the second straight year on February 20 when they defeated their closest rivals, St. Mary's Academy, by the score of 61-57. The Rockets continued on to complete a perfect season by winning all twelve of their league games. We must not, however, fail to mention the five non-league games which were lost, most of them although by a small margin. This set the official season record for the Rockets at twelve wins and five losses. The fine season which was enjoyed by the whole school as well as the ballplayers can be attributed to the especially fine coaching job handled by Mr. Shumway, the constant practice which the ballplayers took pan in for the purpose of improving each individual and the team as a body, the assistance received from the managers and the teachers, who donated their time in order to help the team, and finally the tremendous support, which was received from the students of the school and other people who inhabit this section of the country. The Champlain Clarion came into existence as a result of the centralization of Rouses Point High and Champlain Central schools. The publications of both schools were merged, the product of this merger being dubbed the Champlain Clarion. A staff was appointed and preparations were underway for the first issue of the new paper. The procedure involved in editing the paper may seem simple when read by one who is not aware of the work that each member of the staff does. However, any staff member will verify the fact that much more effort is put into the paper than is apparent. A joint meeting is held by the two staffs to determine which articles should be printed. After this basic step the editor in each school assigns items to each staff member, who returns the completed assignment to his editor. All the articles are then submitted to a faculty member to be prooffead for typographical and grammatical errors. The articles are then retyped correctly and, finally, sent to Mr. Crouse, who prints the paper. After the copy has been sent to press the staff breathes a sigh of relief and awaits the finished product. Student Council Student Council First row, left to right; L. Bennett, B. Goodhart, C.
