What was football? Football was bruises, pulled liga- ments, sore muscles, and broken bones. Why did we throw our bodies against others, try to outwit our opponents, and get mentally prepared to accept winning and losing? To survive. When one of us had his mind set on lasting an entire season, it wasn't so hard to sruvive. But for the few of us who were not so devoted as we thought we were, things didn,t turn out right. So we asked, mls being a member of the team so important?', The physical aspect of survival was present as soon as the conditioning pro- cess started. Running laps, doing calis- thenics, and spending endless hours working on plays were often too much for a few. After the season started, all those hours of practice began to take over, and our team won and lost. With each game, some of us were injured, and some were lost for the remainder of the season. Others, faced with the humiliation oflosing, left us. After intercepting the ball, Todd Urmson and Danny Bates prepare the way for Todd Triplett's run. With the team leaders exhibiting pride to their teammates, spirit was again brought back. The team's spirit was shown on and off the field. The LaBrae game was probably the best game of our season. Soon the season was ended. All the dedicated and surviving players were in some way honored at the banquet. And our thoughts were turned to the 1979 season. Dan Gross holds the ball while Randy Chris- tie kicks a field goal.
