The 1978 girls, JV softball team rned out a remarkable record of 10-1. nr. Dave Verch took the responsibility 'making a winning team out of girls 1 had never worked with before. He oved a job well done. The team's 'st game against Badger was one of eir toughest. Winning it in the bot- lm of the 7th with the bases loaded, Laurie Phillips drove in two runs. During the season: Molly Latimer bat- ting with her helmet on backwards, Kelly Freer and Jamie Klingeman for- getting the game, Kim Cheredaris re- markable catching, and Jane Titus, ex- cellent pitching. ,411 Che Way 0 U16 Cop ball. There was good news for the fans in Trumbull County on June 2 and 3rd, for on June 2nd, the Champion Girls Softball Team defeated South Point 7-2 in class AA semi finals. On June 3rd, the Flashes defeated Springfield Northwestern 3-1 for the state crown. Throughout the year the defense for the Flashes was excellent, enriched by the work of Marianne Thomas and Karen Novotny. Their pitching and catching skill was followed by the superior offense of the girls and brought home the Crown! Judy Kuszmaul stabs a ily in right field.
