Moderator of 4C Sabres Chairman of Mathematics Department Advanced Algebra Trigonometry Solid Geometry A lt' IG na y lca eometry Moderator of Photography Mathematics Keeping up with the trend of increasing high school math courses, the Mathematics Department added l2th Year Mathe- matics to the senior curriculum. This subject lays the ground work for a standard course in Calculus. This new course is an example of the goal of the Mathematics Department which was expressed by Bro. Boeckerman who said, The goal of the Mathematics Department is to blast those with 'high potential into orbit. Last year CHAMINADE HIGH SCHOOL joined the Nassau County lnterscholastic Mathematics League which is composed of 43 high schools. Brother Frank Mullan was the moderator of this year's Math Club and Math Team. Associated with the Mathematics Department is an elec- tive course in Mechanical Drawing offered to the juniors and seniors. This subject is taught by Bro. Mullan. ' BRO. PATRICK PHILBIN, S.M., B.A. Moderator of QH Tritons F c h I II Ill r nc , , CRIMSON AND GOLD The various language departments were integrated this year within the Modern Language Department, under the Chairmanship of Dr, Alfonso Tous. A vast and ambitious program was designed to place Chaminade in a leading position among secondary schools in the nation in foreign language offerings, research, activities, and achievements. This project will take about five years for its full realization. Advanced College Placement courses were given in Spanish lll and IV, These classes were held outside regular school hours, being attended by about forty students gifted in the language. Similar courses for the academically talented in languages will be offered in the other modern languages as soon as possible next year, A language laboratory, the largest and best equipped in the country at the high school level, was inaugurated in the Spring semester. The method devised on tapes by the Foreign Service Institute for training its personnel was used as the basic course. Modern Language Aptitude tests were administered to thestudents at the beginning of the Spring semester.
