All aboard for Jamaica and New York! A westbound L.I.R.R. train, has stopped temporarily at the Mineola station. Mineola, called Miniolagamika'7 by the Algonquin Indians, means Pleasant Villagev. Originally settled by Dutch and English farmers, it remained a part of Queens County until the year 1898, when it became a part of Nassau, and was chosen as the County Seat. Prior to its incorporation in 1906, the town occupied only a square mile. Today it covers an area twice that size. In 1848, Mineola boasted of 10 buildings. In 1906, there were 217. Today there are over 5,000 In 1888, Mineola's first fire company was formed. Ten years later, a County newspaper had its begin- nings. Today, the County Seat of Nassau has within its boundaries seven churches, seven schools, a hospi- tal, and a Memorial Library. 9 Standing outside the newly erected Memorial Library are members of Mineola's Board of Trustees. They are: John Da- vanzo, Stanley W. Krause, Mayor Clifford N. Williams, Edwin A. Kraft, and George H. Rotherham.
