Dray lllllilllllS THE words inscribed on the Chaminade School Seal read: Strength in Unity. A living symbol of this motto are the 3Bl TROJANS--welded into a unit-strong as a class and strong as a group of Chamin- adeans, directed by Brother Clarence Wal- ters. Beginning with the religious phase of Chaminade life, we find: Bob Boyle, Frank Coe, Harry Ellwood and Robert Canavan, representing their comrades in the Sodality. ln scholastic accomplishments, the TROJANS have seven names gracing the Honor Roll. These are: N. Behringer, R. Geiger, F. Coe, W. Leeker, R. Boyle, P. Johnson and R. Canavan. Turning to the musical section, J. Bart- nik, D. Boyd, R. Boyle, R. Canavan, W. Cuff, P. Daly, F. Gallagher, R. Geiger and W. Leeker hold the spotlight. R. Boyle, R. Canavan and E. Burns busy themselves with Morse code work as well as with building of radios. Worthy of special mention for his work on the TARMAC Feature Staff, as well as in the Poster Club, is Frank Gallagher. Even on the athletic field the TROJANS are well represented. Varsity Football men of 3Bl include: Vincent Daly, Marty Dray, Bob Denner and Art Diederich. Close on the heels of these gridders are the Jayvee members: Behringer, Buckley and Law- rence. The TROJAN Cagers feature Guil- foyle, Dray and Derham who have more than proved their worth this year. Present- ly starring on the Rifle Team are: Richard Geiger and Warren Leeker, two outstand- ing Flyer Nimrods. Evidently the Chaminade Spirit has taken root here in 3Bl , and is slowly mould- ing these TROJANS into leaders of to- morrow. l1llISS Bl Bro. During the season the team played sixteen games and emerged victorious in thirteen of these. The brilliant play of Joe Mullaney, one of Cham- inade's greatest court stars, was the reason for this fine record. The season opened with a victory over Oceanside. ln this game Chaminade's re- serves tallied the winning points. Hicksville proved a tartar and defeated us by 4l-39 in overtime. Joe Mullaney was the all-around ace with eleven points. The team then embarked on a seven game winning streak as Tony Bedell and Whitey Collins led the 46-3l assault on Westbury. This was followed by a 41-34 defeat of Hempstead. Joe Mullaney starred in this game with fine defensive play. - 1 .- -- -1 --------, fm- iv--4-iaiicy, vvmiey Collins, JE-ICK Lenz . L. Senner r19,,J,Mul lariey UU' The following week Chaminade obtained revenge by hurdling Hicksville 4l-34 in a rough game that featured the shooting of Joe Mullaney and Tony Bedell. During the Christmas vacation Brooklyn Prep travelled to Mineola to be beaten by the Flyers 40-37. Dave Mullaney put on a sensational set-shot exhibition to garner I4 points and share honors with his brother. Westbury was again taken into camp with Whitey Collins and Jack Lenz sharing individual honors. Jack repeated his fine per- formance as the team took Baldwin. Proving their offensive superiority Chaminade rolled up seventy-six points against Sewanhaka. Dynamic Jack Lenz tallied 23 points as the Flyers set a new Nassau County Scholastic record. Joe Mullaney put on a sensational passing show while Tony Bedell tossed in nineteen markers to aid the cause. The Flyers bowed to Newtown in the last min- ute of play at Jamaica Arena. On the following day Far Rockaway was defeated. Bald- win succumbed to the Flyer attack the following week. Sewanhaka, with an improved team, was again defeated as Joe Mullaney again cap- tured scoring honors. Against St. Paul's, the team went on another scoring spree to ring up 78 points to break their own county scoring record. Collins, Dave Mullaney and Lenz led the scoring. Without the services of Joe Mullaney, the Flyers fell before Brooklyn Prep 38-29. Joe Mullaney finished the season with l7O points. He was followed by D. Mul- laney with 122. Tony Bedell, playing only half the season, tallied lO5 points. Receiving a varsity berth shortl aft ball season co y er the basket- mmenced, Lee really prov d round' e extremely helpful in mg out the Flyer squad. Defensively, he was outstanding, and offensively, he set up many of the Crimson plays. DAVE MULLANEY. Though only a junior, Dave proved himself invaluable on the Flyer quintet during the l942-43 campaign. Possessing a deadly eye, he often broke up a close ball game by sinking long set shots with uncanny accuracy. JACK LENZ. Commanding an unusual drive, plenty of spirit and a good eye, Jack remained constantly one of the main Chaminade threats to the opponents. Deceived by his lack of height, the op- posing teams were often surprised by noticing too late that he had found his way through their defenses to tally the winning point. CHARLIE SENNER. Charlie, the tallest man on the squad, work- ed very effectively in retrieving the ball from the backboard. His height served him admirably in offensive and defensive play. His excellent team-work made him a veritable asset to the team. JOE MULLANEY. Joe's smooth ball-handling and aggressive leadership moulded the Flyers into a most successful unit. This year, his third in varsity competition, he led the Long Island Private Schools in scoring, won a berth at guard on the Haggerty All- Tournament Team and on the All Nassau County Team. And it was highly deserved, too, for Joe will ever remain outstanding among all Flyers for his unselfish play, fine sportsmanship and true Chaminadean Spirit. TONY BEDELL. A veteran player and deadly shot from under the basket, Tony was frequently the high-point man in the Flyers attack. His height being a considerable asset, Bedell consistently helped the team in retrieving the ball from the backboard. WHITEY COLLINS. Besides being a consistent threat to the op- ponents because of his ability to shoot successfully from all corners of the court, Whitey demonstrated an unusual dexterity in taking the Iball from the opposition at the most unexpected moment. Soon after Bedell's graduation, Collins frequently led the team in scoring honors. Jack Lenz and Fred Dave Mullaney Tony Bedell Miller Joe Mullaney Lee Ahrens Front Row: J. Donnelly, W. Sahl, H.
