SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT - The Department of Special Education is one of the busiest, most integrated departments in the school. Academically, the department not only serves the needs of those pupils who function at a low academic level but also is available for the students in need of remedial work in arithmetic and English. Open to juniors and seniors in Special Education is the Work Experience Program which has gained statewide recognition. It gives those pupils who are eligible an opportunity to receive practical work experience in local industry and business. Whenever pupils in Special Education show an ability to do work in any curricular area, the services of all the departments in the school are available to them. - Walter B. Gilley, Department Chairman. SPEECH DEPARTMENT - The Speech Department made considerable revisions during the past school year. Speech is scheduled twice a week for a semester, and a Drama and Radio-TV class was established. The department offered various outside activities including two three act plays, several one act plays, and a public speaking contest. 24

'sf MUSIC DEPARTMENT i A wide variety of courses, classes, and performing groups are offered by the Music Department to stimulate the thoughts, understanding, and appreciation of music in our society. Music Appreciation, Theory, Music History, Sight Singing and Dictation, or Instrumental Music are open to all students. The Glee Club, Marching Band, and Symphonic Bands memberships are determined through personal auditions. Credit is given to the students who participate in the major performing groups which perform daily. In addition to the orchestra, which rehearses twice a week, the music department sponsors several vocal and instrumental ensembles that provide practical experience for the more talented students and broad- en the performance aspect at school and civic functions. - Paul Lucas, Department Chairman. g s L7 SCIENCE DEPARTMENT - The Science Department offers courses to prepare students for most occupations where a general background in science is desirable. These courses also alert and prepare the student for college. Biology, Micro Biology, Advanced Biology, Chemistry, Chem Study, Physics- Conventional and Modern-, and Advanced Physics are among the courses the student may elect. VOCATIONAL AGRICULTURAL DEPARTMENT - Students enrolled in the Vocational Agricultural Program receive instruction in the following areas: Agricultural Production, Plant and Soil Science, Agricultural Mechanics, Agricultural Supplies, Agricultural Products, Agricultural Resources, For- estry and Ornamental Horticulture, Todays demand for attention to science is truly recognition ofthe Vocational Agricultural Program. For Vocational Agriculture includes understanding, study and practical application of many sciences 7 chemistry, Zoology, biology, mathematics, and others. Scientific application of plants and animal studies, and farm power makes it possible Rnr a few to feed millions. The future well-being ofour country depends upon an uninterrupted flow of farm products that can be maintained only be educated, industrious farmers who use accepted scientific practices in the management of their agricultural businesses. 1 Dalton Paul, Department Chairman. The homemalcing units consist of Foods, Entertaining, Clothing, Childrens Clothing, Flower Arranging, Interior Decoration, Family Living, Child Care, Region Foods, Foreign Foods, Knitting, and Money Management. Homemaking is structured as Homemalting l,ll, and Ill. Vocational Homemaking may also be taken as an elective, Homemalcing I and 11.4 Majorie B. Burket, Department Chairman. 25
