It is therefore striving to update service, to provide resources in all media that will best establish communication with all students and fac- ulty. , , . . . . . . Since the library is a place where learning occurs, stress is laid on the moving of information to the student. To facilitate individual learning, the listening-viewing station has been added to the traditional service. - Ethel P. Clark, Department Chairman. fa ,NVQ- MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT - The mathematics department offers complete preparation for those students who wish to become scientists or engi- neers. Having had Algebra I and Algebra II in the junior high schools, they may take modern geometry, pre-calculus, and a full year ofcalculus in the se- nior high school. The liberal arts student may also prepare himself mathematically by taking Algebra II, plane geometry and an intergrated course in college algebra and trigonometry. Applied mathematics and general mathematics also offered for these people who do not want to prepare for a career requiring more mathematics but must satisfy the state requirement of one year of mathematics in senior high school. - j. HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT - A physical education program is designed to meet the needs and interests of all partici- pating students. Controlled experiences not only provide for physical growth, but for the mental and social development of each child. The physical aspect implies the organic development of the individual. This is attained through activities and experiences offered, which have as their goal the development of endurance, agility, skills, versatility, strength, and efficiency of movement. The outcome sought through this area is only a part of the total picture ofa well-adjusted student. - Thomas 1. Carrol, Department Chairman. pf' F' ff HISTORY AND SOCIAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT - Instruction in the History and Social Science department has been expanded beyond the offer- ings in Worltl Cultures, American History, American Government and Basic Sociology to include elective courses in Economics, Modern European Histo- ry, Worlil GCf7gf3Ph!', and Current Social and Political Problems. History teaches us that the knowledge we gain by looking back will guide us in the future. The social sciences are disciplines which deal with developing economic, political and social maturity to the extent that students will get a realistic view of other cultures as well as their own domestic culture in which lasting values are to be Raund and yet constantly reinterpreted in the changing context of life. - Pamellia G. 'sf MUSIC DEPARTMENT i A wide variety of courses, classes, and performing groups are offered by the Music Department to stimulate the thoughts, understanding, and appreciation of music in our society. Music Appreciation, Theory, Music History, Sight Singing and Dictation, or Instrumental Music are open to all students. The Glee Club, Marching Band, and Symphonic Bands memberships are determined through personal auditions. Credit is given to the students who participate in the major performing groups which perform daily. In addition to the orchestra, which rehearses twice a week, the music department sponsors several vocal and instrumental ensembles that provide practical experience for the more talented students and broad- en the performance aspect at school and civic functions. - Paul Lucas, Department Chairman. g s L7 SCIENCE DEPARTMENT - The Science Department offers courses to prepare students for most occupations where a general background in science is desirable. These courses also alert and prepare the student for college. Biology, Micro Biology, Advanced Biology, Chemistry, Chem Study, Physics- Conventional and Modern-, and Advanced Physics are among the courses the student may elect.
