ART DEPARTMENT - The art classes explore a variety of media experiences by painting with instant coffee, shoe polish, egg tempra, inkings and silk screening. Art appreciation both past and present is encouraged throughout the year. ln more advanced classes complete study and rendering of the painting isms is developed. During the year, art club field trips are made to the National Gallery in Wtishitigton, D.C., the Baltimore Art Museum, and the Mellon Institute in Pittsburgh. fax., BUSINESS EDUCATION DEPARTMENT - The Business Education Department ofthe Chambersburg Area Senior High School has organized its pro- gram of studies to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of the students as they apply to business education. The student who wishes to prepare for a busi- ness position follows a suggested program which defers specialization until the junior year. The vocational choices are those recommended by the Department of Education for a large high school. There are three areas of specialization: stenographic, bookkeeping, and clerical. Many of the courses offered in the Business Education Department provide practical business knowledge, skills, and ideals which are important in business and social living. These courses are offered as elective subjects to students enrolled for the general or college preparatory courses. The primary purpose of the stenographic sequence is to provide vocational training for students who want to become stenographers and secretaries. Provision is made for thorough training in the fundamentals of shorthand and typewriting. Transcription, office practice, secretarial practice, and office machines apply instruction to typical job problems. The bookkeeping sequence is vocational and is planned to prepare students for bookkeeping positions, Typewriting is required of all pupils in this pro- gram because many bookkeeping jobs require this skill. Office practice, office machines, business law, consumer education are other courses included in this curriculum. The clerical sequence is recommended to meet the needs of students who wish to do general clerical work in an office. Skill in typewriting and operating of5ce machines is a requirement for entering these positions. ln addition to these courses, office practice, business law, consumer education, record keeping of bookkeeping are required courses. h Ronald M. Lawhead, Department Chairman. 5, S f EN .
