The purpose of this organization is to develop high moral standards. The club adopts programs of study which best promotes this objective. Every other year members join the state wide group of youths who iourney to Harrisburg for the meeting of the Model Legislature. The youths, armed with bills to alter or amend the state constitution, learn legislative procedure and conduct, which will be of assistance to them in later life. In the Latin Club freshmen sophomores jun- iors and seniors who are studying Latin meet on alternate Tuesdays for additional activities associated with Roman life and customs. They become more familiar with the living conditions of the Romans their families their homes and furnishings, and their social relations through the medium of slide films, reports, songs, cross- word puzzles, and demonstrations. The activities in which the club is best known are the Latin carols sung at Christmas time and the awarding of Vs to first year Latin students at the end of each semester. The V standing for Victor Verborum is a letter awarded for schol- astic achievement in vocabulary. The ultimate aim of the club is to bring alive our heritage from the classics and to recreate the reality of an ancient civilization which lives in our everyday language, customs, and laws. A. H. S. Trojans of T954 are regarded by many as the best team in the history of the school. Coach Schlichter's starting team consisted of five seniors. Jim Chase and Wray Bevens, both better than 6' 3 tall, led the team in scor- ing and were outstanding rebounders. Jake Cor- well, 6' 4 , with his assortment of hooks and his ability to fake opponents, took superb care of the pivot spot. Ralph Tolbert, a driving type of ballplayer, and Bob Jacobs, a set shot and floor man, were the guards. The starting five was backed by a strong bench with senior Law- rence Rosenberry playing consistently. The tall and talented Trojans averaged 73 points per game and were the first team in South Penn Con- ference history to score more than T000 points in one season. The Chambersburg five also estab- lished a single game high of T09 points against Shippensburg. The Trojans opened this season with two victories but then were upset by a spirited Al- toona team. The C-burg lads then swept aside eight other foes, the biggest victory being a 90- 56 triumph over the Alumni, before entering league competition. The Trojans took the big one in the first half of league play by beating a determined Hershey team by 9 points and went on to capture the first half title. The table turned in the second half as the Trojans of Chambers- burg were defeated by the Hershey Trojans 53- 49 on the Hershey floor. C. A. H. S. went on to win the remainder of their games but unfortun- otely so did Hershey. The tide was set. VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM... trim 0rAtateclrampionAh1p zaiwgk -QEQEKY ui df x -A KU JA K?
