Vocal Music There are three vocal music organizations in the high school. The largest of these is the Glee Club. The aim of this organization is to train the individual in ensemble singing. All music is chosen with careful consideration for the development and appreciation of the finest in musical art. Both classical and modern com- positions are studied with complete thorough- ness as to interpretation, expression, phrasing, and enunciation. The club membership is lim- ited to ninety voices selected from the upper classes. Rehearsals are held daily during the fourth period. In addition to presenting a Christ- mas concert and a spring concert, this organi- Organizations zation appears in many community-sponsored programs throughout the school year. From the Glee Club is chosen The Choristers, a group composed of twenty-four select voices. This organization provides musical entertain- ment for school assemblies, service clubs, churches, and radio broadcasts. The Freshman Chorus is a group of fresh- man boys and girls who are interested in fur- thering their knowledge of vocal music and in attaining efficiency in part singing. The chorus presents one major activity during the year. Members who do outstanding work may audi- tion for the Glee Club. Choristers MR. The Cadets tallied again in the fourth period. Shatzer scored the lone touchdown for Chambersburg and Anspach added the extra point. Shippensburg 0 Chambersburg 74 Having suffered two defeats and one tie in the first three games, Chambersburg finally got its scoring machine into gear. From the middle of the second quarter the game was played by members of the second and third string who per- formed as admirably as the varsity. Pepper Burns, with three touchdowns, led in scoring. With Norman Butler passing from a spread for- mation, the Chambersburg offense was invinci- ble. The whole Trojan team played admirably in one of their best games of the year. Tolbert and Walters each caught T. D. passes, and Burns trotted into the end zone for another six points. Gettysburg . 0-13-7-0 Chambersburg O-7-O-13 Waynesboro 7 Chambersburg 32 As is traditional the Waynesboro-Cham- bersburg tilt was played in the mud. Slippery footing and a continual downpour hampered both teams. By virtue of its 32-7 victory, Cham- bersburg kept the football used in the game. Varsity Basketball Coach-Mr. Lowell Schlichter Co-Captains-William Shank, Robert Reaid The 1952 Troians, under the direction of Coach Lowell W. Schlichter, won sixteen games and lost six. Chambersburg scored 863 points in conference play while limiting their opponents to 677 points. Their margin of 186 points was the highest in the Southern Pennsylvania Confer- ence. Although they did not win the conference as they have done for the past eight years, they did establish a very fine record. After winning the first half of the confer- ence, the Trojans ended the second half in a tie with the Nighthawks of Hanover. ln the first playoff Chambersburg lost an overtime game on the fioor of Gettysburg College by the narrow- est possible margin, one point. ln the second meeting of the two teams the C. A. H. S. forces lost to Hanover in a thrilling game to the tune of 55 to 47 and relinquished all claims to the con- ference crown. Coach Schlichter was faced with the large task of rebuilding and molding a starting five this season. Only one member of the team had had any previous game experience. Despite inex- perience and lack of height, the team performed credibly under stiff competition. Four of their defeats may be attributed to the poor showing they made in the foul shooting department. With the addition of several Junior Varsity players, the team should climb to great heights in the coming year. J. V. The Library Staff is made up of members from all tour classes. These stu- dents assist the librarians in giving helpful service to members of the faculty and student body. Their duties consist of charging, returning, and repairing books and magazines, typing, filing, and taking general care of the library. Each member serves one period a day and receives credit according to the amount of work he does. Members receive awards for outstanding work, but ot more im- portance to the student is the valuable experience he gains. More skillful use of the library, working with people, and vocational experience are a few of the outstanding values which the individual staff members receive. At the same time the school benefits from the service given by the Library Stott.
