Research through lab gives Carla Balster a first hand view as she is learning chemistry. Lab Experiments Establish Facts A dissected worm, a broken test tube and a ripple tank are common sights in the science classes. Making up the science department are four courses: general science, biology, chemistry, and physics. General science is a required freshman course. Working with unknown chemicals, dissecting cray- fish, clams, frogs and fish, and other experiments make the science courses interesting and enjoyable. Gary Kathan and Millard Merkwan are the teachers in this department. Through the use of the ripple tank physics students prove the theory of wave motion. 18

Explaining one of the many difficult questions asked by trigonometry students is Gary Meeder, geometry and advanced math teacher. Logical Reasoning is Important in Math Preparing students for college and giving them an opportunity to reason is provided by such courses as Algebra I and II and trigonometry. Patience and concentration are required in geometry which in- volves angles, planes, and dimensional figures. Advanced mathematics is a combination of both algebra and geometry and allows students to review and further their skills in this field. A new series of texts were used in Algebra I and geometry this year. The series will be continued as the students reach the Algebra II and advanced mathematics courses. General Mathematics or Algebra I is a required freshman subject. Gary Meeder taught the general mathematics, geometry, and advanced mathematics courses and Mrs. Lois Kaltsulas the Algebra I and II courses. Algebra II students, Bonita Raish and Kathy Garris, practice working logarithm problems. 19
