The Ro alty M The evening of October 3, 1957 found the students of CHS anxiously awaiting the annual coronation of the homecoming royalty. The curtain rose to disclose Sheila Wipf and Curtis Wait as queen and king with Jackie Wells and Bob Healy as their senior attendents. John Sorensen, student council president, crowned the King and Queen and in- troduced the speakers, Mr. Vernon Smith, prin- cipal of Chamberlain High School, and Dixie Houska, graduate of 1957 and the 1956 Homecoming Queen. Directly following the Coronation, the traditional bonfire was held. The cheerleaders headed by Queen Sheila, led a snake dance through town, climaxing the evening with several cheers in front of the City Hall. The following day the OHS band led the parade down Main Street. The parade consisted of grade school entries, rural school floats, and individual class floats. The Seniors had the most beautiful entry with the motto Beeline To Victory , and the Juniors took the most clever award with Alert For Burke . The homecoming game highlighted the events. After a scoreless first half the Burke Bulldogs scored in the third quarter and maintained their 7 point lead until late in the fourth period. In the final minutes the Cubs successfully completed a sustained drive as Ronnie Newby smashed across the goal line for a touchdown. The cheering crowd rose to its feet as King Curtis skirted end for the extra point and the game ended with a tie score 7-7. Many fam- iliar faces of CHS alumni were seen at the dance which brought the 1957 Homecoming fes- tivities to a close. KING CURTIS-QUEEN SHEILA 36 7'I 'K A -4.
