They were under the guidance of new coach, Lowell Bell and assistants, Mr. Elrod and Mr. Kelsey. With the loss of 12 senior lettermen from the 1954 Conference Championship Squad, 3 boys transferring and the loss of senior halfback, Bart Blum, for the sea- son with a knee injury, the “Cubs faced a rough season with little experience and a limited number of players. In the first game against the powerful Sturgis “Scoopers,” the “Cubs’ suffered a defeat. Two weeks later the “Cubs were beaten by the Burke “Bulldogs in a hard fought battle, 7-0. The next week they defeated the Plankinton “Trainers,” 14-6. The next 4 games with Notre Dame, Murdo, Highmore and Winner were all de- feats for the “Cubs. The last game of the season found the Gregory “Gorillas’ playing and defeating the “Cubs,” 40-19. The boys showed much improvement during the season and with this year’s ex- perience the young “Cubs” will be out to improve the 1955 season. Boys lost through graduation are: Bruce Adams, Jerry Bode, Bob Clemens, Bob Gingway, Rod Pease, Jim Satterlee, Bart Blum and Dick Somers. Bob Clemens and Rod Pease were chosen co-captains. 37 WE RE WITH YOU BOYS, WE RE WITH YOU Betty Lokoen, Head Cheerleader, Carole Martin, Senior; Arlis Weiland, Junior, Karen Haley, Sophomore; Sheila Wipf, Freshman.
