Starting with an evening of merriment for all attending the cornation services, Miss Roberta Wells was crowned queen and Ricky Beaudin marshall, in an impressive ceremony, complete with attendants, train and crown bearers all in regal attire. The co1-nation was followed by a well attended bonfire and snake dance for the students. The parade was a feature of the following day, an extremely popular event for those who were present. The Freshmen were awarded the winning float. The battle of the 'Cubs' and 'Panthers' followed in which the 'Cubs' won by an overwhelming score, 33 to 0. In the evening students enjoyed a dance, sponsored by the Student Council. 8 Front row: G. Gunderson, D. Greig, Diann Douville, Dana Douville. Back row: M. Harding, B. Blum, I. Dannenbring, R. With approximately forty-five students answering its call, the 1952.-53 declamation season witnessed one of the largest groups of students ever to participate for a single year in this particular activity, which was under the direction of Mrs. Merry Emme and Miss Charlotte Scott. Following the local contest, which was held November 7, Chamberlain High School winners managed to cop sweep-stake honors in the district contest, also held at Charnberlain, by winning a superior rating in each of the four divisions. These winners in their re- spective divisions were: Leah Authier, hum- -, orousg Pat Iodlowski, oratoryp Marlis Van- 593 , 1 Y. , Overschelde, poetry, and Janice Srnith, dra- matics. After winning a superior rating in the re- gional contest, Leah Authier entered the State Declam contest which was held at Hur- on, S. Dak. on December 3rd. Again she earned top honors by winning a superior ra- ting. Also noteworthy is the fact that Mrs. Emme has been chosen to be a member of the committee which chooses the humorous readings for the 1953-54 season. DISTRICT WINNERS: P. Iodlowski, M.
