hedicatich Mr. Parker, Custodian We dedicate this year's Cub to you Mr. Parker in honor of your faithful service, thoughtfulness, and cooperation during your many years as custodian of Chamberlain High. Mr. Parker has been here for 15 years and has seen many of us through the twelve years of our education, always ready to give a friendly smile and helping hand when needed. We will never forget you, Mr. Parker, and so that you will not forget us, we dedicate our Cub to you. 7be Cub Seated: M. Hall. M. Williams, M. Bode, A. Wristen, M. Hahn, L. Hickey, J. Hauqe, L. The staff is proud to present this yearbook to the students, faculty, patrons, and businessmen who are the promoters of C. H. S. 3 Seated: M. Bode. A. Wtisten. M. Swanson, J. Heinrich. E. Martin, B. The class offered many students a chance to exercise their flair for writing with its varied departments, including feature stories, humor, and editorials. This six page newspaper published every three weeks, was en- joyed by those on the C. H. S. campus. It is also circulated among the businessmen of our city. We had an exchange service with other high schools. A C. H. S. Hi-Life column appeared weekly in the Chamberlain Register. Myrna Bode did a splendid job as editor and Miss Scott rendered needed assistance as advisor. This year's staff included: Edwin Hubbeiing, Kay Hepworth, Marjorie Hahn, Dennis McDonald, Joyce Heinrich, Marjorie Williams, Lois Feltman, Bob Houska, Amber Clough, Dean Wenzel, Barbara Weiland, Miriam Hall, Marlene Blum, Martha Adams, Marcia Swanson, Alice Wristen, Loretta Hickey, Roberta Welles, David Stanton, Donna Rodgers, Betty Hahn, Twila Goff, Elizabeth Martin. Bruce Creamer and Marjorie Hahn were elected Marchall and Queen by the Student Body. A bonfire, snake dance and pep rally climaxed the evening's activities. The next day the parade left the school grounds at 1:00 o'clock and turned out to be one of the most gala events in C. H. S. history. Seniors were awarded first prize, second honors going to the Juniors. Friday 13 lost its super- stitious value when the Cubs romped to a 21-0 victory over the Platte Panthers. A student-alumni dance that evening, sponsored by the Student Council, proved to be a great success. Page 26 Sophomore Float Freshman Float Page 27 Music Float Home Ec. Twenty-five boys attended the football camp, which was held at Nemo, South Dakota in August, under the supervision of Mr. Coacher and Coach Kessinger. Scrimmages were played with members of the Sturgis high school football team, since both teams lived at the camp during that week. In addition to getting in shape much pracical football experience was gained from these scrimmages with a larger and more experienced team. On the Monday following the return to Chamberlain this group of boys reported for action on the practice field located below the school house. Dur- ing the next two weeks much time and energy were spent in working out and perfecting the various formations and plays to be used in future games in addition to the vigorous training. The first game was played at Burke on September 15. A wet and misty day caused the field to be very soft, and although this game proved to be a 7 to 20 defeat for the Cubs, some valuable football experience was gained. The next week on the home field and under the lights, the squad earned their first victory by defeating Colome 21-0. After another week of hard practice and improvement, one more victory was added on September 29, when Wessington Springs was defeated. In spite of the heavy mist and fog also present at the game, the final score was 19-8. The next opponent, the Plankinton Trainers, were also defeated, 20-7. October 13 was the homecoming game with Platte which we won 20-0. It was the hotest game of the year both in action and temperature. The visiting Highmore team was the next victim, and although this game may have given the coach gray hair, nevertheless the Cubs won with a final score of 25-19. A defeat, suffered at the hands of the Winner team came on October 27 on the Winner field. Both teams seemed to be quite evenly matched, thus making it a game of breaks. After a very hard struggle, the Chamberlain eleven were defeated 6-13. The last game and defeat came when the Gregory high school team was played on November 3, on the home field. This team outweighed the C.H.S. squad tremendously, thus handicapping them to a 40-6 loss. Twenty-one boys received letters at the Football banquet held on January 18, in the Lutheran Church basement. They are as follows: Seniors—J. Hut- macher, E, Hubbeling, R. Hass, R. Houska, M. Page 41 The 1950-51 Intra-Mural basketball program consisted of 5 teams made up of non-varsity students of C. H. S. This pro- gram gave more than 35 boys an opportunity to play basket- ball in an organized schedue. A total of 30 games was played in a triple round robin schedule. The program was directed by Coach Kessinger and Mr. House, both sharing the responsi- bility of officiating, scheduling, and keeping records of the program. The 5 competing teams were managed and coached by seniors Jim Hutmacher (Mustangs), Robert Houska (Tars), Harry DuVall (Wolverines), Edwin Hubbeling (Gophers) and Robert Hass (Hot Shots). Hutmacher and his classy Mustangs won the championship trophy. After winning 10 straight games for a cinch to the league title, the Mustang zone defense was solved by Hubbeling's Gophers and Houska's Tars as they downed the Mustangs, both by the identical score of 37-36, in very excit- ing games. The winning team which featured a shifting zone defense and a clever fast break included team players, R. Carey, D. Wenzel, J. Coacher, R. Sharpe, W. Ransford and D. McDonald, the captain elect.
