Everyone enjoyed an exhilirating evening of dining, dancing, and etc. Kim Polomsky, escorted by Miles Clark, was crowned Queen. Keith Bayer and Oee Stevens dance the evening away. Alexandra Bello, escorted by Josh Gibbs, was crowned in an emotional ceremony before the game. The attendants and their escorts were Seniors, Julie Gottschalk and John Bannerman, Kristin Lasch and Pete Jacobs. Juniors, Hallie Philpott and John Tutolo. Sophomores, Megan Thomas and Aaron Jacobs. And Freshman, Megan Dustin and Gabe Orazen. Muddy Harris Stadium slowed everyone down, including the football team which unfortunately fell to Kenston with a score of 33-0. Federico Larco. Well, this is itl Our Senior Year! It's been so long...the Senior Class officers and the class of '87 culminated their High School experiences with style. The year started out with the traditional JR SR Girls' Football Game in which the SENIOR WOM- EN triumphed 20-12 for a 2-0 record. Shortly thereafter, the Homecoming Festivi- ties took off, highlighted by the dance, A Knight In Shining Armor which was reigned over by Queen Alexandra Bello. The Senior attendants were Julie Gottschalk and Kristin Lasch. A warm, fun-filled bonfire, a spirited parade, and the football game against the Bombers were among the activities scheduled. In early November, hundreds and hundreds of pumpkins notori- ously enveloped Grove Hill to the utter delight of many slime-slinging, squash- toting rind riders. Around that time, college applications became a common anxiety. Over Christmas break, SENIORITIS hit in epidemic proportions and continued to a second semester maturity, lasting until June 14th. On February 14th, the Senior Class threw their Valentine's Day Semi-formal dance, their last dance. Senior week began with Coach Fordyce's auction of Senior Men. Graduation and Commencement be- came the last products of the Senior Class Officers and the culmination of the Class of ‘87's high school career. Thank you CFHS for some of the best people and exper- iences of our lives. A final thought to live by: I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. Life is no brief candle for me, it is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for a moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it down to future generations. -George Bernard Shaw SCOTT ALEMAN CARA LEIGH ANDERSON JOHN DOUGLAS BANNERMAN CAROLNN J. Bob Fit The 86-87 school year was a fun, yet busy year for the junior class. As a junior, one feels more accepted as a part of the school, and as a result, we became more involved within the high school. The Jr.-Sr. girls football game and the Jr.-Sr. boys volleyball game are just two examples of the mvolvenent. fun. and joy we found in our junior year. Along with the excitement, their came much work for the class. The 1987 prom, held in May at Canterbury Country Club, was he mam priority of the junior class. Preparations started in the summer by looking for a prom location. Once a location was found, we turned our class spirit towards fundraising. Through the football and soccer concessions, we were able to raise sufficient amounts of money, which will help make the 1987 prom truly astonish- ing. The excitement and fulfillment of hard work, together, made our junior year a great one. Jennie Schiemann. Jamie Carlton. Bob Rutkowski It's been said that the sophomore year is boring, but our class managed to make the best of this year. We kept ourselves busy Homecoming weekend by selling mums on Friday in school, as well as at the game, and by selling concessions at the annual Junior-Senior Foot- ball game. Through the holidays we took it easy to prepare ourselves for the selling of carnations on the Friday before Valentine's Day. These fund-raisers, as well as the bakesales and the magazine drive, all proved to be very successful in raising for next year's prom, which undoubtedly will be very memorable, since our class has shown much spirit and enthusiam. We have lived through some rough classes and are ready to venture into the more developed courses. Through the M M sale this year we have shown that are class is willing and enthusiastic about participating m class functions. Although it was not as successful as we had hoped, as our first fund raiser, it certainly showed no limit as to what our class can do. Our first year in the new surroundings was a tough one. but we now know what will be expected of us when 1990 comes our way. Let us hope that next year and the years to follow will be as successful as this year has been for the class of 1990. Although their hopes of a State title were lost in a nerve- racking shoot-out at the State Semi-finals, they had a won- derful season. The offense of the tigers was led by Federico Larco, Chris Barosh, and Pete Jacobs. Each of these player recieved awards for their fine performance during the sea- son. Federico Larco was MVP of the CVC, as well as a member of the first team All Midwest. Chris Borosh and Pete Jacobs both were members of the first team CVC. The offense improved throughout the season until they were a finely oiled scoring machine that could overcome any obstacle. The Tiger's midfield was a major factor throughout the season. It consisted of Corey O'Brien, Jeff Mettee, and Doug Gier. Corey O'Brien, a four year letterman, received the honor of being on the first team CVC. Throughout the sea- son the halfback line controlled the midfield, thus forming the backbone of the team. Both Jeff Mattee and Doug Gier will be returning next year to lead the team onto another successful! season. Returning from the previous year Doug Jung, Rob Thompson, Dwight Otto, and Thad Barry formed the unsurpassable fulback line, which separated the men from the boys. Although Rob Thompson was the only one to receive the first team CVC honor, it was well known that the other members of the defense also deseved the credit. Brian Bargar, the dominant force in goal, provided the icing on the cake. His first year of soccer was so successful that he earned the honors of the second team CVC and honor- able mention for the Greater Cleveland All Stars. The substitutes for the team cannot be overlooked because they provided the backup support needed on a Distric Champion team. GOOD LUCK NEXT YEAR. This year's varsity football team was full of surprises. Finish- ing the season at 6-4 was the icing on the cake for what turned out to be one of Coach Piai's most enjoyable seasons. The year began with high hopes and thoughts of making the playoffs for the first time in Chagrin history. The lack of excessive talent and number of kids participating slowed the development in the early going. A few crucial in- juries also hurt, but by mid season they were back in form and displaying the league's most potent offense. With big victories at the end of the season over archrivals Solon and Wickliffe, the Tigers showed their poise and maturity. They mist d the playoffs by only a few computer points, but de- lighted the Chagrin fans with their style of play. 0 Berkshire 10 44 Hawken 8 13 Kirtland 23 17 Char don 7 0 West Geauaga 14 Orange 6 0 Solon 6 33 Kenston 0 0 Chamberlin 17 10 Wickliffe 17 ABOVE LEFT: Bill West is about to lick Dave Willkomm of Orange on this incomplete pass. The team finished at 4-4-1 on the season and showed a lot of promise for their futures as varsity starters. The biggest victory of the year for this team came against the Chamberlin Tigers in which a great effort by all the players contributed for an impressive victory at home. This team has a chance to finish with the most wins of any of Mr. Wyville's teams over his 25 years of coaching. The wealth of talent on this team has produced a season of fun and excitement for the players and fans. At press time, this team had a record of 17-3 throughout the regular season. With a couple of victories in post-season competition at Lakeland, the boys could reach 20 for the first time in Chagrin history. By now this all will be decided. The majority of this team comes from the underclasses, but the strength lies in the three strong Seniors. Brian Bargar, point guard and leader of the troops, lead the team through a successful season. Outside shooting phenomena. David Martin lead the team in outside shooting and reigned terror throughout the league with his accuracy. Coming back from a year off. Josh Gibbs also performed well all around and helped the team to a strong second place finish in the CVC. All hopes lead to next year, when TJ Florkiewicz, Ryan Kaye and Steve Calder return as the foundation for another strong season. 54 BEACHWOOD 42 70 CHARDON 55 56 BEDFORD 55 50 WEST GEAUGA 59 70 ORANGE 61 70 BRUSH 60 56 SOLON 51 69 KENSTON 47 69 CHAMBEERLIN 60 55 MAYFIELD 79 76 WICKLIFFE 52 74 CHARDON 53 47 WEST GEAUGA 49 73 WILLOUGHBY SOUTH 55 75 ORANGE 61 49 SOLON 48 65 KENSTON 51 96 CHAMBERLIN 68 N A WICKLIFFE N A N A KIRTLAND N A Back Row (L to R):Coach Wyville. Their first big victory started a season of fun and excitement, a literal rollercoaster ride for fans, players and op- ponents. Throughout the season they maintained a strong conference position, second behind Solon. In a final duel with Solon, playing for a piece of the Confer- ence title, the girls posted a fine perfor- mance just coming up on the short end of the stick. The girls did however finish a very respectable and strong second in the Chagrin Valley Conference. The Varsity team was led by Seniors Jamie Koechly, Alexandra Bello and Anne O'Donnell, and the Junior scoring sensa- tion, Marianne Llewellyn. The bulk of the team lies in the Juniors and the Sophmores and the experience gained from these three seniors will benefit them greatly next year. All these younger players improved dramatically under the guidance of their mentor, Mr. Bob Ohlrich. One of the finest in Ohio, Coach again surprised everyone with a strong team and looks to- wards next year. X «% 1 JV GIRLS x y • X I y UNDEFEATED C' x i i l c 0. i Back Row (L to R):Coach Buckle. Not only did they beat all the opponents which they faced, but generally reined terror throughout the league with their overwhelming victories. Throughout the first half of the season the rest of league was surprised by this team, but in the second half even stacked their teams in futile attempts to knock them off. The team was lead Juniors Jill Kramer and Jill Hendrix. A group of Sophmores and Fresh- men also got considerable playing time in gaining their experience. But they did leave be- hind wrestlers with some varsity experience which is well desired. Captain Mike Orazen and Regional Qualifier Brian McKenna are both looking toward the state tournament in March, each posting good records so far into the season. The majority of the team consists of sophomores, which many have compared to last year's graduating class. The sophomores are led by Varsity lettermen Todd Feucht and Tim Clark. With some hard work and dedication, which all of our wrestlers possess, the sophomores will lead a team to contend with in the CVC. Did you enjoy the trip? ZENITH We’ve already gone places! It's been a long year and at times we thought we'd never get done. But here it is. We've been through a lot together- We had the book thrown at us with no advisor, and can proudly say we missed every deadline. But thanks to Mrs. Wright, Mr. Glasbrenner, Mr. Fowley (our publisher), and Mrs. Lessman (our new advisor), WE MADE IT! We'd like to thank our parents, the people mentioned above, the custodians, all the people who helped-you know who you are. If anybody deserves to be thanked, it's the staff that stuck with it all year. EDITOR IN CHIEF: Dawn McFadden ASSISTANT EDITORS: Heather Bryson Akiko Ok amoto Federico Larco Stacy Schultz Christie Korb THE ROAD NOT TAKEN Two roads diverged in a yellow wood. And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down as far as one could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair. And having perhaps the better claim. Because it was grassy and wanted wear. Though as for that, the passing there Had worn them really about the same. ART EDITOR: Kyle Conrad SPORTS EDITOR: Jim Kwasny SENIOR SECTION EDITOR: Tom Harvey ADVISOR: Mrs. Loretta Lessman And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day Yet knowing how way leads onto way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood and I- I took the road less traveled by And that has made all the difference. -Robert Frost- I CLEVELAND STREETORANGE STREET OVER E CHILLICOTHE ROAD WALNUT STREET MILES K r PHILOMETHIAN HAZELWOOD DRIVE VILLAGE : CHURCH STREET GROVE HILL SOUTH FRANKLIh : FALLS ROAD OLIVE STREET MAIN STREET SOU T OVERLOOK ROAD MAY COURT WILLOW LANE BELL
