Sometime in life you may come across a person who is different than most. A person who is a good conversationalist and enjoys discussing your prob- lems . Someone who has an open and friendly outlook on life. He is a very warm-hearted person who will go out of his way to help you. This person is always ready with an encouraging word yet can use a stern word when necessary. These words best describe a man that was one of the finest persons CFHS has known. The faculty, administration, and student body deeply feel the loss of a sincere and dedicated individual. Therefore, the 1969 Zenith staff, proudly dedicates this page in memoriam, to John Scott better known as Scotty. In Memoriam 3

Foreword The world's all time best seller said it; a recent recording echoed it--To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven. Perhaps this is the season, this is the time to write with greater purpose --to say something more than the conventional yearbook Introduction usually says. Somehow, the students of CFHS in general--the class of '69 in par- ticular --deserve more than the traditional string of platitudes which invari- ably ends with a toast--to the future! The future can be--and is for some--a vague kind of never-never, hardly- ever land. There are students who are willing to wait--perhaps paradoxi- cally--waiting anxiously for the tomorrow of so-called ADULT life. There are others who THINK of the future, but LIVE in the present; they want to SHARE the decisions, SHARE the work--in short--SHARE THE ACTION! This involvement, this share of responsibility, should be a vital part of school life. Truthfully, it hasn't been--to a really significant extent. There is indeed a time to break down--a time to build up, a time to keep silence--a time to speak, a time for war--a time for peace, a time to laugh--a time to cry. Just as surely, these are the times when students need to be regarded as decision makers in their own rite, rather than passive recipients of adult benevolence. The time to reap for seniors needs to be the culmination of four years of progressively heightening leadership. The time to plant for underclassmen needs to be the continuous development of active involvement. The time to learn for faculty and students needs to be a continuous sharing of dynamic experiences. Together is the keynote--win or lose--in sports or activities or academics. No togetherness--however fraternally oriented --has the right to destroy or subvert the individual. This year--perhaps more than any in the school's history--has witnessed a new surge in student individuality. May these experiences serve not only future adult life, but provide vitality for an eternal present where free- dom of expression initiates a moving force for a freedom of action, en- nobling the individual in particular and society in general!
