WE SANG IN THE SUNSHINE 4 • FOREWORD We live in an age of change and challenge that should present an exciting prospect to high school students and make you eager to assume the responsibilities that lie ahead, whether they involve further education, a job, military service, or home making and a family. The opportunities are many, if one is prepared for them, if one's goals are good and if one’s determination is strong. The greatest inventions remain to be invented. The best books are still to be written. The warmest friendships are yet to be made. The most skilled craftsman is not yet at work. The highest ideals remain to be lived up to in business, the pro- fessions, and public service. No one's imagination has soared to the ultimate height, and human relations still could use plenty of astronauts. To each Chagrin Falls High School student I offer my best wishes for attaining your personal goals. Carl B. Stokes Mayor of Cleveland 7 8 10 DEDICATION Occasionally in the course of compulsory education, a student encounters a teacher who brings life and meaning into learning. Learning then ceases to be a process of fact assimilation, and becomes an awakening to a glowing, vital, ebullient world ex- isting all around us. With an open mind, a bright sense of humor, a recognition and respect for each student as an individual, all reinforced by a sound knowledge of sub- ject matter, this rare teacher can instill in her student a consciousness of the com- plex wonders to be discovered in the pursuit of education. Through her contagious ex- uberance in communication of the endless significance of the humanities in and out of the classroom, such a teacher has presented herself to us. With an equal exuberance, the Seniors proudly dedicate the 1968 Zenith to: MRS. FRANCIS JENKINS 12 Superintendent: Dr. Thomas Assistant Superintendent Dr. Brubaker 16 Principal J. C. STUDENT COUNCIL Under the leadership of President Wick Elderkin and faculty advisor Mr. George Kaschalk, the 1967-1968 Student Council worked conscientiously during regular summer meetings in order to prepare for the school year. Council projects such as Orientation of Freshmen and new students, and the Student Council--Faculty Picnic got the year off to a good start. The Christmas Toy Drive and Monte Carlo were also big successes. Projects sponsored by Council this year have also included Workshops, the Student Store, the OABR, sweatshirt sales, and numerous other beneficial activities. 24 NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Scholarship, leadership, citizenship, and ser- vice--these are the criteria for selection of National Honor Society members. The two impressive victories over Twinsburg (36-0) and Kenston (32-8) showed a great Tiger improvement. Disappointed by a poor showing in their 8-0 loss against Solon, Chagrin bounced back with a hard hitting effort against Orange; but the league champs proved too much as the Tigers lost 19-0. The loyal fans who stayed through the cold and snow at West Geauga saw Chagrin clinch a tie for second in the CVC with a 14-6 win. The final game of the year saw the Tiger spirit evaporate. The Tiger attack and defense fell apart as Cuyahoga Heights ran wild in a 34-0 loss.
