The Senior Class Presents . The Chagrin Falls I960 FOREWORD Those of you who are mentioned or whose pic- tures are shown on the succeeding pages, represent the beginning of the great population increase that has been forecast for our nation. The adult citizenry of Chagrin Falls has brought into being many changes in their desire to prepare you as their representatives for the future. The curriculum has been expanded to provide you with the necessary courses you will need for the multitude of vocational and educational choices be- fore you. Two new schools have been constructed, one to house you and the second to alleviate the overcrowded situation that you have created. The administrative and instructional staff has been expanded to insure your educational and social solidarity. The churches and social and service organizations of Chagrin Falls have worked in close proximity to secure these same educational and social concepts. Your parents have afforded you with the stimulus for success and a cultural background from which to draw. Now the question remains, What will you do with the knowledge you have gained, the con- cepts and ideals you have assimilated, and the ability to think rationally you have acquired? You are beginning. The first of the great population increase that began in World War II. Directly behind you will be an ever increasing number of high school graduates. No longer will the axiom hold true, if one taries, another may take his place, for tomorrow there may be two to take your place. The age of technology confronts you with a vast number of occupations and endeavors for which your high school education will serve only as a foundation. Utilize this foundation to its utmost and we will be proud of the part we played in its for- mation. (ft. (P Guidance Director 4 The graduating class proudly dedicates this 1960 Zenith to a man who in his five years with our school has become a popular member of our faculty. Within his classes of English and speech, humor prevails to lighten the school day. By forming the Drama Club he made it possible for interested students to take a greater part and learn to appreciate the theater as shown through the magnificent production of The Diary of Anne Frank. The interest of the Drama Club has grown to such an extent that he was able to form a chapter of the National Thespian Society. And so, taking into consideration all he has done for our class and the school, we, the Senior Class, are honored to dedicate this yearbook to HUBERT J. FREBAULT 5 ADMINISTRATION MR. T. C. GURNEY Principal We are all acquainted with his familiar face in the halls of Chagrin. He takes a sincere interest in each student. With perseverance and friendliness he conquered the problems of our new school. BOARD OF EDUCATION Mr. Swartwout Dr. Finley Mr. Nichols Mr. Blazer Mr. Hine Absent--Mr. Chatham DR. ROBERT FINLEY Superintendent We know him as the binding tie among the three schools. He was foremost in rounding out our curriculum to keep up with the modern standards. Promot- ing pride in the school and team, he is a frequent spectator at all the games. 8 HIGH SCHOOL FACULTY Fay P. Armstrong Librarian Norman Fry Industrial Arts Bus. Sue Tenny had a wonderful time in Austria. She spent one month in Vienna and the other in Sch- wandenstadt. a small country town in Upper Austria. She is hoping that some day her friends will be able to return'the visit. Karl Petersen spent his summer in Italy under the same program. Milan was his city home and Piazolla sul Brenta near Padua was his country home. Karl says he enjoyed his bus trip around Italy where he was able to see many interesting sights and visit small shops. Having no knowledge of the language was no set back for Karl. He returned to Chagrin in full command of Italian. Horacio Borsani was a welcome addition to the senior class. All the students have had fun listen- ing to his comparisons of Argentina, his native country, with the United States. He was always willing to give talks and show slides of Argentina to various community groups. The Junior Council on World Affairs was grateful for having him as a member when they represented Argentina in the Model U.N. Assembly. Because of his warm per- sonality he has made many lasting friends in the school, the community, and in the surrounding area. 92 ACKNOWLEDGMENT We, the Zenith Staff of 1960, would like to ex- press out sincere thanks to Mr. Norman D.
