Foreword In many ways our school life resembles a three-ring circus. The students represent the performers trained by their teachers, all striving to perfect their acts. This show leaves only gay and exciting memories of the completed performance. The work done behind the scenes, the hours spent improving routines, the whip- cracking necessary to keep everyone in step-all are forgotten in the finished product. As you look through these pages, we of the 1954 Fasti staff hope you will remember this year's per- formance With pride. QL. 5 GxVfiiff ww W w MQEJMX M6 WZMW6 VJ ,Lf M W if WWWJZQW Q J MMM? Our four years at Chaffey, in building for this moment, have been filled with outstanding activities. We can, as a class, proudly look back at our experiences through these years. As Freshman, the class of '54 was attributed with giving one of the best assemblies in quite some time - a truly outstanding accomplishment. Likewise, the Sophomore and junior years were filled with pleasant memories, class assemblies, special sales, and class teas. S e rn e s t e 1' S C C O I1 cl The climax to our high school life has come as it should, in this our Senior year. The graduating class of 1954 honored Chaffey by presenting as its Senior Play, Finian's Rainbow. The play was truly one of the greatest productions Chaifey has ever presented. The 1954 Senior Tea, Dance and Play Day will always remain pleasant memories to this graduating class. Graduation itself was climaxed by the Wonderful Graduation Dance. Indeed, as we the graduating class of 1954 look back on our days at Chalfey, we may be justly proud and happy. Graduation is the final act for the seniors. It holds the joy of a show well done and the sadness of the realization that they will never do it again. Although each one who has participated in the entire per- formance is in the finale, only these four people have the honor of speaking for all of them. Albert Valle has been active in speech activities throughout his high school career, winning the Upland Lions' Club speech contest and serving as president of the National Forensic League. He was also president of the senate at the 1954 Student Congress jane Franks participated actively in Student Council, representing the girls of Chaffey as Girls' League President. She also won the local division of the Bank of America achievement awards contest in the field of liberal arts. Dave Flocker was elected vice-president of the student body second semester, and as such acted as president of the Legislative Council. This year he won the Ontario Lions' Club speech contest and played King Neptune in the Extravaganza. joe Agapay has had many honors during his senior year. He held the office of first semester student body president. He represented Upland at Boys' State and was elected Lieutenant Governor. He was then chosen one of two boys from California to attend Boys' Nation, where he was appointed Secretary of State. These four speakers were chosen by the seniors as outstanding in their field. They represent the class and speak for them before the band strikes up the final tune and the grand march is over. This year they were second in parliamentary procedure iinals in Southern California, and they won the sweep- stakes prize at the annual Kellog Field Day held at the Kellog-Vooris campus of the Farmers of California State Poly College. This entitled them to elect a queen, Joyce Slate, to reign over Southern California clubs during the field day. Under the sponsorship of the Ontario Kiwanis Club, the Key Club began an active year of school service. Guiding parents at Back to School Night, selling refreshments at the bas- ketball games, and running the concessions at track meets were a few of their many projects. One of the most popular events sponsored by the club was the Bowery Ball. Dan Anady, president, and Ernest Rehnstrand, advisor, did an excellent job of leading the club through a very successful year. Beginning their year of school service proj- ects, the Cavaliers sold tags promoting football games. One of their most important projects, keeping the halls clear of students during first and seventh periods and noontime, won the praise of the faculty and the administration. Under the capable advisorship of Clyde Fran- cisco, with joe Agapay and Bob johnson serv- ing as presidents, the club has had a very active year. Activities Earn A Letter For Your Sweater was the theme of the G.A.A. this past year. If a girl had been an active member of the club for two semesters, she received a block letter at the annual spring banquet. At this ban- quet, as well as the one in February, the officers for the next semester were revealed, awards given, and the seniors were honored. The girls showed their sportsmanship several times during the year when they participated in C.B.L. play- days and at special meets with Claremont, Fontana and St. Bernadines High Schools. In such sports as basket- ball, baseball, volleyball, softball, and tennis the girls were many times victorious.
