Colonel Smalley instructed History and Civics classes while at Chaffey. Lieutenant-Colonel Herschel Griffin is a chaplain in the l85th ln- fantry Regiment. While at Chaffey, Colonel Griffin was assistant to the Superintendent and Director of Curriculum Research. He also served in the first World War. He formerly taught Mathematics at Chaffey. Miss Casanova resigned her position to take a job with the govern- ment as a Spanish interpreter. Although social activities of the faculty have been curtailed, in order that members might take advanced and in- structors courses in First Aid, the faculty teas have been continued. The curriculum has been changed somewhat and new courses for defense have been added. ln their friendly, cooperative way, the faculty has joined civilian defense committees, helped in salvage drives and in numerous ways with the war effort.
