The 1962 Chaffee Red Devils came into this year facing the problem of almost completely rebuilding the team plus the fact that we entered into a new, larger conference. However, the Red Devils arose.to the occasion and developed into a tough offensive and defensive unit during the last half of the season. The Red Devil offense was the only one to score in each of its nine games in the new conference, which in this class of competition is an accomplishment. Nine of the starting eleven will return for the 1963 season. Front Row: Jack Wessel, Gary Cook, Jerry Stroup. Kneeling: David Stone, Jerry Grooms, Managers. The 1962-63 Red Devils had a season of rebuilding, recording of seven wins and eleven losses. All players got an opportunity to play, which is a big factor for the next season. Many of the games the Dev- ils lost were by a narrow margin, so next season promises to be a good season. We will lose five seniors from the squad who will be missed. With the help of the ”B’’ team players and returning lettermen we should have a fine season next year. She likes to cheer most at basket- ball games, but she dislikes seeing girls there who haven't combed their hair after teasing it. Her favorite subject is shorthand, and she likes the song. Young and In Love. Observe, if you will, Laverne Greer, our Cotton Carnival Queen. Autumn Karen Christy Steve Sehultz Our vivacious senior, Karen Christy, is Autumn Queen for 1963. Karen likes to spend her summer days in the swimming pool and her nights at good movies. Sometimes she likes to dance, especially to the record, Paula. Karen dislikes to see girls at a dance, or anywhere else, with a lot of make-up on. In school her favorite subject is art. No wonder Karen was chosen Autumn Queen. Even with all these interests and activities she is always friendly with every- one. 3HA Carolyn AI wood Wayne Chapman Carolyn, our redhead, likes to go to a basketball game where the people are friend- ly and thoughtful. She dislikes people who are snobbish. After a session of swimming, Carolyn may sit in her room for hours listen- ing to the record, Still, while practicing her shorthand. Here is a look at our F. H. A. Queen, Carolyn Allwood. Valentine 3aye Wilhite Cary Cook Faye is Chaffee High's Valentine Queen. This petite miss likes to skate and to go to basketball games. She dislikes to see people who are big headed. Faye could listen to the record, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, for hours on end. Here is a brief look into the life of Faye Wilhite, Valentine Queen for 1963. Varsity Citida Dooley flack Wessel Linda Dooley, a pretty blonde junior, enjoys cheering at football games. Her favorite subject is history. Rather than doing housework, Linda fixes people's hair while listening to her favorite record, End of the World. Linda is our Varsity Queen for 1963. Mogul Darla Buckltamwu Doug Steimle Mogul Queen, Darla Buckhannon, is one of the most bubbly girls in the senior class. Darla, who was crowned at the Junior-Senior Prom, loves to play the piano; especially her favorite song, Moon River. When she isn't playing the piano at church or school, Darla likes to go to football games. She always makes sure she is neatly dressed before going anywhere, as she likes high- fashion, good-looking clothes and dislikes sloppily dressed people. We're very proud of Darla as our Mogul Queen for this year. Front row: Karen Christy. Autumn; Darla Buckhannon. Mogul; Faye Wilhite. Valentine; Back Row: LaVerne Greer. Cotton Carnival; Linda Dooley.
