The 1961 Mogul The 1961 mogul staff proudly invites you to climb aboard the Mogul Express, which will transport you through the memories of 1961 at Chaffee High. Foreword 1961 Mogul As we look back through our life there are many, maybe insignificant, but important events which we think it well that they are to be remembered. Many of these events have taken place at Chaffee High this school year. The 1960-61 mogul staff proudly presents its supreme and combined efforts to capture these events for you. Capturing the events is our job, and when this is done the memories are left up to you. As you review this mogul many times in the coming years, we sincerely hope that it will always be a personal treasure to you------ The editors Dedication Mr. Clarence Wessel Mr. Wesselâs job is perhaps the most diversified of our school administrators. He donates his time to many projects. They range from sponsoring the senior class, to driving the school bus, and placing his O.K. C.W. on little blue slips that admit stu- dents to class each morning. His invaluable assistance has been given to the Yearbook staff. Faculty members and to the students who needed his help. To this wise and understanding man we dedicate our yearbook for 1961. 4 SHIP IT. . -fntjetc: 19 : u 6! w ⢠Fred Lewallen Superintendent B.S., S. E. Mo. Dean Scheetz, after catching a pass for a good gain, catches a strong left from a Portageville player. The Red Devils completed a nine game schedule, winning four and losing five. One loss was contacted in conference play, and three were in nonconference games. We lose five seniors from this year's squad which will be missed very much. The devils took second place in the Little six Conference this year. Although we had a relatively small squad this past season, we are looking forward to a good season next year with the help of the experienced men coming back. Also we are looking forward to a fine group of Sophomores and Freshmen. 1960 Football Schedule Sikeston 12............... Ch. 7 P'Ville 6................. Ch. 31 Dexter 25................. The Chaffee A team enjoyed another good season, finishing with a 16 win and 4 loss record. We lose two Seniors this year who will be badly missed, but hope the younger boys will give great support next season. This year, as a concert band, we took a day off from school for a Spring Tour. On the tour we presented concerts at Bell City and Lutesville. On April 10, we participated in the Spring Festival at Cape Girardeau which is sponsored by the Southeast Missouri Band Association. The guest director for the festival this year was Mr. Haskell Sexton from the University of Illinois. On the morning of April 21, we gave a Spring Concert for the student body. That evening we gave one for the public. On May 3, we went to Delta and presented a concert. To mark the close of a very successful year, we played at Baccalaureate Services on May 14 and at Commencement Exercises on May 18. 87 CORNETS TRUMPETS TROMBONES, MELLOPHONES, BARITONES, SOUSAPHONES PERCUSSION 88 The Concert Band ROW 4. This choir is composed of a select number of musically inclined members who meet twice a week on their own time. During the year they have sung on several occasions. Their musical calendar has included a Christmas concert, a tour to Lutesville and Bell City High Schools, a special concert for the Rotary Club, the annual choral festival at the Southeast Missouri State College, their spring concert, and Baccalaureate and Commencement services for the graduating class of 1961. During the four years that the A Cappella Choir has been in existence it has built a reputation to be proud of and will probably continue to do so. 90 A Cappella Choir ROW 4: Clay Hunter, Philip Dame, Larry Meyer, Steve Cunningham, Van Smith, Norman Finney, Ronnie Gilmer, Jack Maxwell, Gary Mills, Larry Cumbie.
