The Red Devils, undefeated and tied only once in conference play, were Co-Champions of the Little Six Football Conference. The only defeat of the season was to season opener, Sikeston. The Devils, against both confer- ence and non-conference foes, compiled a total of 246 points against their opponents 99. Climaxing the season, Chaffee edged a strong Poplar Bluff team 19 to 14 in perhaps the most exciting game of the season. Of thirteen lettermen, seven return to bolster Chaffee’s hopes for the 1960 cam- paign. Gary Lynch with good blocking picks up yardage against Poplar Bluff. SEASON SCHEDULE 6 . . . Compli mcnls of FRISCO EMPLOYEES THE CHAFFEE HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT BAND The Chaffee High School Concert Band boasts a membership of 70 people (including alternates). Next year, with normal growth, the Band should be about ninety unless it is divided in some way. Hav- ing grown from forty-five in three years, the Band has developed into an organization of which its school and community can well be proud. Seniors this year who will be sorely missed are: Judy Cathcart Judy Gilmer, flutes; Roberta Rievely Judy Carter, clarinets; Barry Gettings, alto horn; Nadine Warren, sax.; Ralph Ward, bass; Dwight Gib- bons, trumpet; and Bob Goins, drums. Some of the functions which we attended this year were the Cotton Carnival at Sikeston; the March- ing Festival at Jackson, J-C Rodeo Parade at Sikeston, Scott Co. Teachers' Meeting, all home football games, Christmas Program, Spring Concert Festival at Cape, Spring Evaluative Festival at Cape, John Dalton for Governor Parade at Kennett, our own parades and spring concert plus an outdoor program at Circle Park and of course, the graduation exercises. We've had a very full, busy year as it should be. MADRIGAL SINGERS Our Brand-New organization! This group is the youngest in the music department, having completed their first full year. Picked entirely by selection by the Director, the Madrigal Singers' biggest problem was, as usual, practice time, When the snows forced school to close, Madrigal met at various members' houser. getting in good rehearsals and having a good time (snow-fighting) the same occasion. Some memories will never die: singing for all those Cops at the law-enforcement meeting; P.T.A. with no accompanist; (no one told Ruth Ann about it) Allen-a-dale; Early One Morning; Matona, Lovely Maiden . . . It was well worth the extra work to discover that singing around the table can be enjoyable and beautifully expressive music. All in all, it was a good year, kids. 40 STANDING--Left to Right: Barry Gettings, Philip Dame, Larry Cumbie, Steve Cunningham, Ralph Ward, Tyke Finney, Bucky Finney, and Phillip Gettings. The Chaffee High School A Cappella Choir is in its third year. Organized in September 1957, the organization has developed into a versatile choir singing many different types of music and for all kinds of occasions. To belong to this choir requires that a person pass a stiff try-out based on voice quality, dependability, academic grades, and sight-reading. Only 40 voices are picked each year out of many more applicants. For the third year now, the choir has met only in the evenings, once or twice a week, for no credit. We sing for P.T.A., Rotary, and many other organizations when asked, besides our own spring concert and festivals. This choir has made for themselves many rich memories, many happy times to be recalled with warm recollection in later years. Obviously, such a group has a great deal of organizational pride. To work with them is very rewarding. D. Lawson 43 P. T. A. OFFICERS President.....................Mrs. G. C. McFerron 1st Vice......................Mrs. J. W. Groseclose 2nd Vice.....................
