It had been published by the senior typing class with the exception of two editions, which were published by the junior typing class. This gave all typing students experience with stencil cutting and use of the varicus equip- ment used in getting a paper completed. This is the first year that sophomores have had the privilege of working on the Devils' Tales staff. Though Sikeston was superior in weight, reserves, and experience, the Red Devils fought valiantly to hold the Bulldogs to 43 points, failing to score themselves. The following Friday night on September 29, Chaffee met another bitter defeat at the hands of Hayti by a score of 13-6, Chaffee's only tally being on a 90 yard kickoff return by halfback Fred Lindy. Chaffee then lost to Portageville 35-0 and Dexter 33-0. They again lost to Risco on October 27, at Risco, by a margin of 21-7, halfback Fred Lindy making the T. D. — Captain and fullback Lyndell Hooker making the point after. Then, on the dismal rainy night of November 3, the Red Devils came into their glory by out-fighting and defeating the Malden Green Waves by a score of 31-8. Chaffee concluded her home games with a battle with Illmo-Fomfelt which was bitter-fought and ended in a 12-6 victory by the visitors. Chaffee's final game was played with the East Prairie Eagles on the Eagles' home field. The Red Devils met defeat as the Eagles trounced them 33-0 which gave East Prairie the Little Eight Conference Championship. + + FOOTBALL SCORES Chaffee 0 Sikeston 43 6 Hayti 13 n 0 Portageville 35 0 Dexter 33 • i 7 Risco 21 • • 31 Malden 8 • • 6 Illmo-Fomfelt 12 n 0 East Prairie 33 Conference games — 67 — Iiiiiliuill Row 1: B. After a late start our boys finished the season with a ten won and six lost record. While this wasn't the very best record, we were not at all disappointed with our showing in Southeast Missouri. With a fine bunch of boys, who showed a lot of interest and willingness to work, our team improved all through the season. With only one graduating senior on the team, we feel that there are better things to look forward to next year.
