Seniors Eleven years ago we started upon our long and studious journey in several different schools; some joining us along our way and others dropping out; but finally we got through the sixth grade ready for junior high, and were we grown up now! The days in junior high went by so fast that almost before we knew it we were freshmen in high school. Now three more years have passed and we are seniors, 33 of us started out last year under the leadership of Mr. Goddard and Mrs. Hampton eager to begin raising money for our trip at the end of the year. But along the way we lost one of our members, Ezra Harrell, leaving 32 of us to work together. We chose as our motto: Make the Best Better,” and as our class colors Red and White with a Red Rose as our class flower. For our queen candidates during the year we chose for Halloween, Nadine Law- son; for Daisy Mae of F. H. A., Mildred Crumbaugh; and for Home Coming at Oran, Maxine Shell. We were very glad to have three of our girls as queens this year. They were Valentine Queen, Leevada Mier; Football Queen, Maxine Shell; and Mogul Queen, Leevada Mier. The first class activity of the year was a Christmas party and exchanging of gifts, at which everyone had an enjoyable time. Another party was given by the losing teams in a contest that was had during the year, which was also a success. In March the class presented a play Whose Little Bride Are You?” The cast was: Doctor Bellows, Frank Russell; Augustus May, Robert Hanna; Simeon Singleton, Cecil Harris; A'gcrnon Clawhammer, Wylie Heltibrand; George Tobin, Harrell Rushing; Florence Bellows, Shirley Jones; Mrs. MacEckron, Anna Mae Miller; Dolly MacEckron, Mary Helen Monroe; Mrs. Tobin, Mary Kathryn Langston; and Maggie Brady, Betty Jo Margrabe. A number of our senior boys were on the football and basketball teams. Those that went out for Football were: Richard Bailey, Wylie Heltibrand, Ezra Harrell, Frank Russell, Don Shecley, Bob Hanna, Billy Ray Bisplinghoff, and Bill Williams. Two senior boys were chosen for the Little Eight all star team. They were: Rich- ard Bailey, End; and Frank Russell, left half. Wylie Heltibrand, center, and Ezra Har- rell, end, were picked for the all star second team. Robert Hanna had honorable mention. Cecil Harris, Ralph Drissell, Bill Williams, and Billy Ray Bisplinghoff were on the basketba'l team. To raise the necessary fund for our trip we made and sold sandwiches, cakes, pies, had refreshment stands at ball games, sold pencils, pins, fountain pens, sponsored dances after ball games, a box supper, and one of our largest events was the Valentine Dance. We closed the last year of high school with Baccalaureate on May 8, Class Night on May 10, Commencement on May 13, and a trip to New Orleans May 15 to 21. We were sorry to have to leave dear old Chaffee High. Best wishes to all our teachers and underclassmen — all the good luck possible. — 18 —
