FOOTBALL Front Row Merlin Heeb and Billy Mac Crass. Second Row Billy Joe Huber, Guy Bunyard, Owen Yount. John Freeze, Paul Goddard, Jeff King, Bill Wilkinson, Archie Smiley. Third Row George Green, George Campbell, Arthur Heeb, Gerald B. Massey, John Henshaw, Emmett Free, George Robb, Stirling Boyts. Fourth Row Lawrence Welter, Bill Lee, Jack Burnett, Jessie Layne, Melvin Talley, Coach James Smith. RED DEVIL FOOTBALL REVUE The football season was about the average season. The Red Devils won 3 and lost 5. They scored 99 points and had 138 scored against them. In the opening game Jackson was beaten 19 to 0. Guy Bunyard scored 12 points in this qame. Lawrence Welter intercepted an enemy pass and ran 96 yards for a touchdown. Owen Yount scored the other point. In the Dexter game at Dexter, we were outweighed and lost 25 to 0. Next. Kennett came here and we lost to them 20 to 13. Our next game was another out-o-f-town game with Perryville. We again were on the short end of a 20 to 13 score. We won the next game at home from Portageville. The score was 20 to 7. Guy scored 12 points. Lawrence 7, and Owen scored the other one. Then we went to Caruthersville where we lost 32 to 7. Caruthersville had a very large ’.earn. The last game of the season was also a success. We beat East Prairie 27 to 0 at home. Guy scored 12 points by doing some fancy broken field running. Lawrence scored 7. Jack Burnett scored 1. and John Freeze scored his first 7 points in 3 years of competition. For the season, Guy scored 49 points, Lawrence 32. Owen 9, John 7, Arthur Heeb 1, and Jack Burnett 1. Co-captains were elected for the year 1939. They were Guy Bunyard and Bill Huber. Both of these boys are very popular as well as being good football players. In December the boys were given a football banquet followed by a show. The banquet was given by merchants and Mrs. Paul Montgomery gave the show. The football sweaters are red with black letter C, year stripes, and emblem. The letter C and the Devil's head have a white border around them. 19 40 — 28 —

BOYS' BASKETBALL ■ BF First Row — Jessie Layne, John Henshaw, Bill Bagbey. Arthur Heeb, Hutson Goza. Back Row Archie Smiley, Bill Lee, John Frieze, Wallace Honaker, Marvin Ancell, Coach Smith. The boys won 5 games and lost 10 this year. They scored 266 points and had 368 points scored against them. The total points made by each player is shown below: Hutson Goza — 63 first Arthur Heeb — 24 sixth Jessie Layne — 60 second Wallace Honaker — 20 seventh John Freeze — 36 - third John Henshaw — 17 eighth Marvin Ancell — 33 - fourth George Green — 5 ninth Bill Bagbey — 25 . fifth Bill Lee — 2 . tenth The lettermen of the squad are Goza, Lane, Ancell, Bagbey, Heeb, Hon- aker, Henshaw, Green, and Lee. The basketball sweaters are black with red emblem, letter, and stripes. The emblem and letter have a white edge around them. The team entered the tournament at Benton but lost the first game to Fornfelt. 1 9 — 29 —
