Eighteen boys and fourteen girls came to grade 5 on August 29. In September Vickie Day moved to a farm south of Rock Falls. Early in the year our class organized a club and elected these officers: Leonard Queckboerner, Presidentg Curtis Keim, Vice-President, Deborah Schroeder, Sec- retary. The purpose of our club isto encourage good citizenship. Pupil committees make many decisions. Our room received an award because all the families of our pupils made the home fire inspection during Fire Prevention Week. Fifth grade is a year of first for many of the children: the first chance to take instrumental lessons, the first year the boys participate in sports activities, and the first time to take part in painting Halloween pictures on the store window.
