This is the largest enrollment our kindergarten has ever had. We are experiencing a year of doing many things for the first time. ln September we went to Deer Park, near Ore- gon, lllinois where we enjoyed seeing and feeding the various animals. In October, we enjoyed aHalloween Party in our room and a costume parade through the grade school. We are looking forward to eating Thanksgiving dinner at the school cafe- teria, the Christmas program for our par- ents, and our train ride in the Spring. On the last day of school we will have our picnic and then eagerly await the coming of another year of firsts. Early in the year David Davis came to our school from Clystic, making our total 24. We nowhave eleven girls, and thirteen boys. Committees were chosenfrom the group to serve refreshments, assistedby their mothers, at our Halloween, Christmas, Valentine, and Easter parties. Serving on these committees teaches us to assume responsiblity, and share with each other. We have been thrilled iwth the use of our new Sixties Edition of Scott, Foresman in Reading. The moder- nistic presentation of our stories makes reading most enjoyable. Our new Arithmetic, which is 2 quite advanced, should lead to a better un- ' ', derstanding of numbers. Our year has S5 been a very busy one, but who wants X to loaf? We are alive! The second grade room is evenly balanced this year with nine boys and nine girls enrolled. Excitement reached an all time high when the firemen came to give us a surprise ride on a real firetruck during Fire Prevention Week. We enjoyed our Halloween Party as we dressed like witches and ghosts and paraded in the halls, played games in our room, and ate the good food prepared by our mothers. We read, wrote, and drarnatized storiesg dabbled in paint and colored chalk as we tried to create life-like figures from paper mache. We worked hard learning howto read, write, and spell so that we would be ready for the third grade next year. Eighteen fourth graders, ten girls and eight boys, reported for duty on August 29, 1962. This year We used several kinds of media for painting, such as melted wax crayon, soapsuds, wet paper towels, and colored chalk. We correlated our art work with our subject matter by illustrating ma- terial We haduread with murals and diararnas. Mr. Hoffman directed our music education which We thoroughly enjoyed. Let us search for truth and render decisions with wise judg- ment. Consider all facets and weed out propaganda. Make no statement without sincerity of thought. Lead others, only when it has been deter- mined that ours is this better path. Question and question again, search and search again, until you have determined that this Way is rightg then move forward rapidly with God's blessing. WITNESSES: SENIOR CLASS OF i963 Miss Penticoff Mr. Messer of 64 ! L' - ix E X .1 SENIOR FINGERS All of them are pointing forward, but many are crossed. As we look into the future, we see KAREN ZUIDEMA, a world-renowned lecturer. Her favorite topic is the Dutch Influence on American Social. Life. KENNETH HEFFELFINGER has finally found the perfect rod. He can drive it, fish with it, or hunt with it. PAT ST. CLAIR has entered the field of chiropractics. Friends claim her back rubs are not only out of this world but out of this town. LOIS ALLEMAN is now publishing German folk songs about the latest gos- sip. SANDI BRIGHTMAN is singing them. RICHARD GEISZ has been especially quiet these last few years. It appears as if he has lost his spittoon. AURELLA NELSON has continued in the field of art. We understand she is now painting a picture of love. LARRY ADOLPH has really grown. He's now a full stream. Another break-through in science has been made by a prize-winning phyicist. DIANE BURKHOLDER has discovered that the moon has a greater pull on the tide than on the untide. ARLYN LARSON is now producing his own educational TV program. He calls it Little Punks Can Learn Too. RONDA LARTZ has perfected a new vitamin pill to give boys a growing boost. fEspecially up.l A new universal constant has been found by a conductor, LARRY PAULEY. Bing before bang except after boom. KEN MICHAEL has entered the automotive industry. We understand he's a coming young man in a going concern. Many C.H.S. students are grateful for the contributions ELLEN VOS has made in the exacting field of music. Her crowning achievement has been the invention of a lighter bass drum. PAUL BENNETT has opened a Kiddie Land on the West Coast. Its special attraction is the real dodge-em cars. What's this? Has BURNELL MOEN discovered the second M.M.? ARDITH ROSENOW has recently perfected a new method of teaching Arithmetic. It's called Rosenow's 'Rithmetical Reasoning. DERRILL SCHROTH now owns a production concern in Mt. Carroll. He always has been rather fond of Mt. Carroll. ALLAN HUIZENGA has put his bus line on a more commercial basis. He calls it the Midnight Special. Last but not least DENNIS ETNYRE has been elected president. His plat- form was the following: It seems so unfair that some people have brains and are willing to work. 65 ' ' U I'f'f.-Tff'7l f'l - -n., ' K 'V' i 5 1 lx 'W Q .. l hi , 1 , .F QT. . f A' ,van gf , , I F 127. . 55234: ' Q , fp-.H iw , him. .4, I M' LARRY GLEN PAULEY IIJOBYI Annual Staff 4 Band l,Z,3,4 Baseball Z,3,4 Boys' Chorus Z Class Officer, President 2 Treasurer 3 Class Play 3,4 Contest Plays 3,4 Letterrnan's Club 4 Masquers 2,3 Mixed Chorus l,Z,4 Music Contest l,2,3,4 Pep Band l,Z,3,4 Statistician l,2,3 Student Council 4 Occupation: Civil Engineer PATRICIA SUE ST.
