THE SENIOR CLASS PLAY The senior class presented their play, We Shook The Family Tree' by Hildegarde Dolson, on November 4th It was a wonderful play and kept the audience chuckling for days Hildegarde fViletta Pfundsteinl is desperately anxious to attract the attention of some eligible senior to take her to the big dance She wins the school debate with a plea of attracting boys, she only convinces Hartman! must be a terrible drunkard mother CJoAnn Asayl for help the phone tie women asking if father beats them against drinking, but instead everyone that her father I Ned As nildegarde appeals to her starts ringing, with sympathe very often, and suggesting that he might be sent to Alcholics Anonymous Despite Mother's hor ror at these wild stories about her husband, she is moved by fear that if she misses this prom, it is the beginning of the end And when the more popular girls, KDorothy and ElizabethD,start to lord it over Hildegarde, Mother takes action She knows a nice boy and she has to phone his mother anyway Hildegarde is in ecstasy and though she does not know the boy's name, can not resist getting back a little at these popular girls Poor Hildegarde ' How could she know that her mother would pick Freddie CRonnie Holmesl, the one boy in school whose oldfashined parents CRoger Walker and Del ores Daehler J forcd him to wear knickers When Hildegarde finds this out she pleads with her father to let her break the date, but Father is mad and Freddie is the son of Father's boss It develops that Hildegarde has given a little girl, Paige Qshirley P I some envelopes to play mailman with the envelopes which gets distrib uted to all the neighbors turn out her folks, and she is in despair to be her fathers old love letters Sally, her sister, lJoyceD tells her about Beauty Mud so she gets some in hope that her fatal beauty will cause a stag line stampede Meanwhile, Father, in danger of los ing his job because of all the talk invites his boss out to the house to see for himself how sane and sensible his family really is Hildegarde, her face smeared with Beauty Clay, runs screaming into the room Her brothers Robert S and Chuck A , are respon sible for having a live bass in the bath tub Then Freddie bursts in wearing long pants He hooks them from her brother The brother rushes in after him and tackles Father's boss by mistake They all turn on Hildegarde, for she is at the bottom of every single disaster But in a laughter filled whirwind finish, the happy solution is reached that not only solves H1ldegarde's problem but Freddies too Director Mrs Harriet Bushman 13 to her mother. That settles 1t...H1ldegarde can expect no mercy from 0
