Track 2 3,4, Pepster 1,2,5,4 Howard Brett, Superintendent Senior C lass Advisor 9 SENIOR CLASS HISTORY September 1946, what a memorable day' The time finally arrived that we had been waiting for, the beginning of our high school career Our first class, was English, I can remember it very well There we sat very timid and shy not knowing what to expect As the tardy bell rang the teacher took attendance she foxmd the following people present Jo Ann Assy, Char es Aude, George Bittner Kenneth Cxmningham, Lawrence Farthing, Willard La Dew, Ronn e Holmes, Ned Hartman, Harold Hartman, Joyce Imel, Robert Schleuning, and Max Sturtevant In November, Kenneth Cunningham moved to Lanark and in February Willard La Dew moved to Thomson Agann, in April we lost a member of our class when Lawrence Farthing dropped when he moved to Chadwick from Sterling At the beginning of our Freshman year we had an enrollment of twelve, but by the end of the year the number had decreased to ten Then, we began our Sophomore year This year proved to be more enjoyable because we were no longer Freshmen W found we had the same classmates as at the end of last year with the exception of George Bittner, who had moved to Hanover during the summer In September, we welcomed a new member to our class, Vilitta Pfundstein from Sterling At the beginning of the new semester, Joe llontague moved here from Morrison Our Sophomore year closed with the enrollment of eleven In our Junior year, Dick Davis moved to llilledgeville, and Roger Walker transferred here from Davenport, at the end of the first semester We had a very successful year We gave a prom and our Junior play, and managed to come out money ahead Then came our last and most important year This year our enrollment changed but once, when Jo Ann Asay dropped out We gave our senior play and eng oyed the prom given in our honor by the Junior class There were ten of us to receive diplomas at our commencement exercises Bob X 10 out. But, Dick Davis helped to make up for these losses O . e CLASS PROPHECY For the last ten years we have truggled and been thrifty, Since we left the class in 1950 Ned Hartman who always was a tease Is now in a factory canning peas Jovce Imel is married and lives on a hill, Her husband, a banker, does her life fill Roger Walker a Democratic leader, Became r1ch, lnventing a Republican beater A roving sailor, Lefty, became, He knows any girl who has a name For now he has published a dictionary Bob Schleuning who was a very good man, Became famous by leading a band Max Sturtevant who played a good basketball game, A roving reporter he became Viletta Pfundstein with all the good grades she caught, Is now teaching children, who need to be taught Joe Montague an agrlcultural lover I'm told, Is making his money on stock he's sold Chuck Aude, a goat farmer turned out to be, Stop in some tlme, and see all his kiddies From the class of 'SO' tis true that we did come, We weren't all smart, and we weren't all dumb Some names are in fame up to the present date But don't get conceited, perhaps it was just fate Esther 11 Homer has made use of his vocabulary, i ! C. . . 2 Pres.------------------------Ned Hartman . ,----------------- g - e e e e - 0 0 0 ' ' ' e THE SENIOR CLASS PLAY The senior class presented their play, We Shook The Family Tree' by Hildegarde Dolson, on November 4th It was a wonderful play and kept the audience chuckling for days Hildegarde fViletta Pfundsteinl is desperately anxious to attract the attention of some eligible senior to take her to the big dance She wins the school debate with a plea of attracting boys, she only convinces Hartman! must be a terrible drunkard mother CJoAnn Asayl for help the phone tie women asking if father beats them against drinking, but instead everyone that her father I Ned As nildegarde appeals to her starts ringing, with sympathe very often, and suggesting that he might be sent to Alcholics Anonymous Despite Mother's hor ror at these wild stories about her husband, she is moved by fear that if she misses this prom, it is the beginning of the end And when the more popular girls, KDorothy and ElizabethD,start to lord it over Hildegarde, Mother takes action She knows a nice boy and she has to phone his mother anyway Hildegarde is in ecstasy and though she does not know the boy's name, can not resist getting back a little at these popular girls Poor Hildegarde ' How could she know that her mother would pick Freddie CRonnie Holmesl, the one boy in school whose oldfashined parents CRoger Walker and Del ores Daehler J forcd him to wear knickers When Hildegarde finds this out she pleads with her father to let her break the date, but Father is mad and Freddie is the son of Father's boss It develops that Hildegarde has given a little girl, Paige Qshirley P I some envelopes to play mailman with the envelopes which gets distrib uted to all the neighbors turn out her folks, and she is in despair to be her fathers old love letters Sally, her sister, lJoyceD tells her about Beauty Mud so she gets some in hope that her fatal beauty will cause a stag line stampede Meanwhile, Father, in danger of los ing his job because of all the talk invites his boss out to the house to see for himself how sane and sensible his family really is Hildegarde, her face smeared with Beauty Clay, runs screaming into the room Her brothers Robert S and Chuck A , are respon sible for having a live bass in the bath tub Then Freddie bursts in wearing long pants He hooks them from her brother The brother rushes in after him and tackles Father's boss by mistake They all turn on Hildegarde, for she is at the bottom of every single disaster But in a laughter filled whirwind finish, the happy solution is reached that not only solves H1ldegarde's problem but Freddies too Director Mrs Harriet Bushman 13 to her mother. O A O , ' Q o . f , J o :J .4 L I - . 1 I 5 D JUNIOR CLASS PLAY The Junior Class Play 'Oh Brother' by Christopher Sergel was presented to a capacity crowd on the evening of April 14th This gay comedy related the story of a high school senior, Paul who was trying desperately to raise money so that he could afford to take his girl friend, Jane, our and treat her to more than just a coke KBanana splits and costly sundaes were her specialty J In Paul's attempt to earn the money honestly, he finds that one comic misadventure after another occurs to thwart him KEach of which seemingly is innocentl First, his younger brother, Junior, invades his photographic equipment and ruins the lens of a borrowed camera The owner, Mr Willoughby, and also unfortunately, his father's boss, 1sn't the least bit pleased with him When photography fails, he tries selling chicken feed But, once again, Junior tries to be helpful, only hindering him instead To the chicken feed, he added a mixture of D are killed and chances for Paul then looked pretty gloomy! Ir Jones, the father, shows his outrage at the escapades of his family, Mrs Jones tries to keep the family in hand, spending her greatest effort calming the enraged father Paul's sister Mary, seems to be on the 'in' with most his enter prise and loyally attempts to defend him when all else has failed Of course, all ends well! Paul's photography helps advertise Mr W1lloughby's hats The sales increase, and part of the profit goes to Paul He and Jane then can go off for a splurge at the local soda grill 16 D. T. The tragic result is that a great number of chickens JUNIOR PROM On the night of May 5th the Junior class was host to the Seniors at a banquet The following program was given lelcome Lano Franks Responce Ned Hartman Prophecy Esther Isenhart After an elegant meal the group returned to the high school with their guests for a fine evening r brzi 'e of dancing to the music of A1 Grace and his orchestra The ballroom was decorated in blue and white with a theme Stairway to the Starsn The room was illumi ated by sparkl ing stars, and during the course of the evening many twinkl ing stars floated downward to the dancing floor In the center of the ballroom was a stairway l68d1HZ to a large star in the center The clever decorations are the art work of Mr Unzicker and his Junior class, and ch credit for the success of this wonderful event must go to him 17 Class Hill -------- Viletta P. n U .A ' SOPHOMORE CLASS lst row Miss Karriker, Allen Haag, Lyle Tripp, Walter Nelson, Gayle Neber, Mr Morning 2nd row Shirley Friederich, Velma Swanson, Mary Schleuning, Marvellis Prowant, Lois Janssen, Marilyn Schriener, Barbara Hawk 5rd row Joyce Eickert, Darlene Anderson, Marie Iben, Allen Tripp, Delores Daehler, Dorothy Shibly Last year's timid freshman class, which then consisted of eighteen members, resumed their studies on August 29, 1949 This year we found a few changes in our class, we now have only seventeen members We lost three of last year's classmates but were consoled by the arrival of our two new members, Valter Nelson and Lois Janssen At our first class meeting we elec ed the following officers Pres Walter Nelson Tregs Allen Haag SGC? Carroll 16 Chadwick gg ' ' 32 . . 17 1 23 1 22 20 I 1 The Lightweights Are County Champions For 1950 The Chadwick Grade team consisted of 15 boys for this past season, some coming out a little late in the season to make much of a showing in conference play The varsity team experienced very tough competition all through the year as well as being great ly outsized However, our boys proved to be a good competitor in all their games, showing up especially well against Shannon on the home floor The lightweights had a very good season, winning most of their games in conference play, and defeating Mt Carroll, Thomson, and Milledgeville, in tournament play,to win first place in the County These boys deserved to win this trophy and we are all justly proud of the fine trophy they brought home to Chadwick The boys that played on the lightweight championship team are as follows Neal Doden, Kenny Eickert, Jerry Knees, Lyle Weber, John Straub, Ronnie Heffelfinger, Larry Miller, and Ronrie Foy The lightweight cheerleaders were Sharon Stein, Nancy Heffelfinge and Sylvia Stein They were outstandwng in their work this past season and much credit must go to them for their fine work and the loyalty to their team Varsity cheerleaders were Judy lewis, and Nancy qmith two of the County's best Considering everything t1e Chadwick Grades had a very successful season and next year looks even better Bob Traum being the only eighth grader, we will have back for next year all the boys but Bob GRADE SOFlBALL Phe Chadwick Grade Softball team had a very good season this year, winning most of their games in spite of their size This was the first year of softball for ome of the boys and more will be expected next year, in fact they will all be bank except Bob Our opponents can well fear this aggregation another year Players on the team are as follows Gary Handel Ronnie Heffelfinger Kenneth Eickert Larry Miller Chadwick Chadwick Chadwick Chadwick Chadwick Qhannon Thomson Argo Fay Lanark Qhannon Neal Doden John Straub Lyle Weber Billy Hawk Ronald Foy Chadwick Chadwick Chadwick Chadwick Chadwick Games won 7 Game lost Z6 Jerry Kness Leroy Handel Kenneth Hahn Lee Spinka Argo Fay Lanark Mt Carroll Mt Carroll Villedgeville rn L 0 Chadwick 17 Thomson 7 Chadwick 8 Milledgeville 5 O c 2 Y 9 1 7 18 . 13 2 6 , 6 O , 6 . . l8 V 2 15 - 7 . , 4 ' 3 L 9 5 U O , s 5 ' 9 Q CWM HMM Kb KX 42 q c ?
