The character of Fllice Freeman Palmer was not forgotten, however, as the organization increased in membership and activity. She still remains the ideal and inspiration ol every girl in the sorority. Qlpha Phi Pi members are carefully chosen on the basis of scholarship and character. Its purpose is to foster a spirit of fellowship and loyalty among the members and to work hand in hand with others for the welfare of the college. Girls of this sorority are members in Cardinal Key, Student Council and are listed in Who's Who Hmong Students in Hmerican Colleges and Uni- versities. ln 1942 Miss Theda Mae Lebo gave the lvy Day Plddress. Start- ing in the tall of l932 as a college curricular elective, without any Well defined plan of wide publicity, the organization soon gave evidence that it had what it takes to make a successful concert group. Much credit for the launching of the course is due to the registrar, Miss Sophia Uhlken, for her enthusiastic collabora- tion in providing suitable class periods for re- hearsals, etc. The first concert tour was a very modest one. Hinsworth was the most remote point from the campus in May of 1933. The yearly growth of the chorus was rapid and had there been room in the rehearsal studio it could easily have reached one hun- dred members or more. The average for a number of years was eighty. Nine trips to Denver and KOR were made each May in Music Week. Rt KOR the chorus ranks among the highest on that stations list of choral broadcasting units. Tours into the Black Hills as far as Spearfish have been made at various times. For three successive seasons the Rapid City Chamber ot Commerce sponsored the chorus at the annual auto- mobile show there and in addition provided a splendid banquet at the Pllex lohnson Hotel. The city of Rlliance invited the chorus to give an entire program at the time of the dedica- tion of the new civic auditorium. The college as well as the chorus itself can take pride in the desirable publicity and prestige achieved in the past ten years. Five returning lettermen were on hand to start the season-Bob Bauman, Kyle Plbernathy, Lawrence Tillman, Henry Olt- manns, and Donald Datus. The Eagles played two games, both with the soldiers at Port Rob- inson in which they proved themselves far superior. With basketball discontinued for the year, Coach Hrmstrong turned his efforts toward an intense Physical Education program. Intra- mural basketball, boxing, swimming, hand- ball, table tennis, along with the calisthenics, were a part ot the program. wggmmrf - : ' .W if vf W ,AF S I Q if K Q x' 5 ,- A fe. 9 V ma 1 Q IQ E s 5 Y A R '3, ik vm kiwi , , 5 is-A515 :1 fm : :R i If iff 1 I , 4 f W 'Rx 'Q ,':'- sz Grey-don L.
