p06t cUt The Prep football squad lost five games and won three this year. The team was composed of boys from all classes, but the majority were underclassmen. As a result we were inexperienced in many of our positions. The forward wall was our worst example. But considering our tough schedule, the team as a whole didn't do so badly. One of our better and first games was with Lusk, Wyo., but we came out on the short end 27 to 13. The passing attack, which was rated as one of the best in Western Nebraska was at its best in this game. The team's worst performances were with Hemingford and Rushville. The Bobcats ran wild against us, but our running attack went rather well against the Longhorns. The Prep eleven then nipped Hay Springs on the following Friday 14 to 7. Our aerial attack was impossible to use because of a wind storm. On our Homecoming another defeat was put in our laps. Crawford spoiled the day with a score of 33 to 13. St. Patrick of Sidney then fell to Prep in a seesaw battle all the way. We came back in the last quarter and sprung an off-tackle play that went through the Irish for the winning score. The next week the Junior Eagles scalped the Pine Ridge Indians 20 to 18. The referees earned their money that night, stepping off penalties. The final game was with the Alliance Reserves. Prep was ahead all the way except for the last few minutes when Prep, with their backs against the wall, punted. The ball went nowhere but straight up. The Alliance crew then easily put it over on a Quarterback sneak. When the gun went off ending the game and the season the score was 12 to 7. We had a new coach this year, Mr. Max Wilkens. He should be given a medal of some sort for trying to make a football team out of some 20 boys; over half of these were inexperienced. If it were possible that the Sport Section of the Annual could be dedicated I'm sure it would be to him. Here's hoping that he and the team have better luck next year. Football Co-Captains Left is JAMES HAMPTON, right is CHARLES ROOK.
